What do 'cool' people in their mid thirties wear on a night out?

Need outfit ideas for a night out. Mid/late thirties and short but slim. V small boob.

Very rare night out in the big smoke. We are down south and so looking for something understated (not the Essex girl look) but as though I am actuality up to date (rather than mummsy). Something like black skinny jeans heels and a top. But more up to date.

More of an H&M budget I am afraid?

Oh dear, I would have gone for black jeans, heels and a nice top Blush didn't realise that was out-dated! Sorry no help!

It'll depend a lot on who you are with and where you are going.

We're not in school, there's no one "cool crowd".
(I wish there were, then I could copy them)

I'm not sure I'm cool but I am off out tonight and wearing this skirt, a black off the shoulder top and black heels.
I'm sure h and m have similar styles. High waisted and down to the knee. Very comfortable

op there are a lot of places in the big smoke. I think you should wear whatever you're comfortable I'm but if you do wanna be cool, what's cool depends on where you're going. Shoreditch has a different take on cool than Kensington.
Where are you headed to?

Oh gosh think rural down south. I don't want to out myself! It is a good university and cathedral city.

I we are more likely to go somewhere where there are students, hipster types and 'old ravers'. So anyone dressed as if a TOWIE extra would be ridiculously over dressed (plus it's not my style ).

Maybe I will buy a top and stick to black jeans. I agree that 'cool' is the wrong word but didn't know what to use instead. Just don't want to loop like a 'mum frump' with my single modern friends coming from London...

Dizzylizzie I LOVE that skirt and some of my friends will wear stuff like that. But they don't suit me. Or I would go for it. But it's that sort of market I am trying to

A pair of high waisted skinny or mum jeans with a bodysuit which you can pull off with a slim build and smaller boobs. Then a nice pair of strappy heels to finish it off. It's an easy to wear updated look and the strappy heels give that bit extra that makes it look more 'night out' rather than 'casual daytime'
Think a look very similar to the picture included, but the jeans don't have to be ripped if that's not your preference

I have a baby now so I don't go out after 7pm anymore, but I've put in the hours in the Hackney dive bars, warehouse parties and art openings over the years. Don't know anyone cool in London who would wear jeans and heels on that sort of night out. If you want sexiness, something sheer. Always something sexy offset with something unsexy. & Other Stories have a sale on still - maybe something from there with chunky ankle boots? That sort of thing.

My friend lives in London and is the coolest person ever. She's 40. She would wear some high waisted jeans, slim but not skinny (think 'mom' jeans) rolled up above the ankle, and a turtle neck black long sleeved top. Probably with vintage loafers and a necklace. She looks great all the time. I'm always jealous!

Not in London, but I would wear something like a leather skirt, fine knit jumper, opaque and flat ankle boots. I am not a heels person though so that is probably no help!

Short dress, black tights, DMs. I go out a fair bit and variations on this work every time. Plus my feet don't ache at the end of the night!

I'm from down South. Cathedral City and good uni? I think I know where you're going (Ends with a y and isn't in London?) In which case I second Summer's idea or something along those lines. Although if I'm ever in doubt, a black dress, tights and heels or dark straight length pants with heels.

I live in East London, these trousers and lots of variations in colour have been my staple. I copied a woman I saw on the street. So comfortable!

I think I know where too (if it is the city ending in y I graduated from the said "good uni" yest!)
Jeans, top, heels are staple Mum uniform for a night out & a bit dull.
What about a black jumpsuit? this one is from Topshop but something similar could look a bit different and chic.

Cool people definitely don't wear heels.
Ankles must be showing.

Depends on your definition of "cool".
I would consider the statement that, "cool people dont wear heels", as a bit of a sweeping statement to be honest, Because that would make alot of very on trend and sylish individuals apparently not cool. Which doesnt make sense. It would also depend on the occasion or event surely?

Too add, i would say it was less about the item, more about how it is worn that would make it seem cool/uncool.

Whatever suits you personally and you feel comfortable in! Nothing wrong with black skinny jeans, nice top and heels. I always think that is sort of classic and suits most occasions that don't require formal wear. Don't wear something you think looks "cool" but you are self conscious in. The biggest accessory for a 'cool' person is confidence! Be yourself and rock it Wink

I'm mid 30s, live in E London and went out in Old Street last (I'm not cool), and I wore a black knee length skirt, a baggy striped too, neon green tights and DM shoes. I think wear what you're comfortable in and accessorise.

I'm so not cool, I just love little dresses and boots or small heeled shoes. Personally I wear what I feel good in, I've figured that if I feel really glam and look in the mirror and feel happy then I'm going to look good! I could be wrong but it works for me! Confidence is key!
