OH gawd. 'Big' night out with teens/20s .... help!

It's no good saying don't go. I've promised now

Going out with DD1, 2, and 3 for DD3s 19th birthday. BFs going plus couple of mates. Probably cocktail bar then club. They all wanted me to go with them last year but i chickened out and they were :( DH is staying home with DD4 (3) saying ''go - enjoy!'' Arrgghh!

Kids won't give a shite what i wear - lovely young people - but i'm flustered. Haven't been clubbing for 10+ years.

So - late 40s, good legs, good bum, good tum, BUT massive matronly boobs and not keen on my arms. 5'5''. I'm thinking dark skinny jeans, heels, and .... that's as far as i've got! Help!

Flats! And a sports bra to keep the big boobs in place?

Where do you normally go for clothes go there or primark for a going out top something a bit glittery maybe? Tbh i would rather stick pins in my eyes than go clubbing i would bow out of the club and justgo for cocktails

What about this mint velvet blouse? Understated, still a bit sexy with the zip. Jeans, heels and a classy shirt/blouse with great hair/nails/make-up is the answer.

What's your dress size? Any colour preferences?

I wouldn't try and keep up - I'd wear dark jeans, silk shirt and my favourite brogues. I would possibly need some drugs to get me through the night but it's lovely that they want you to come with them.

Eh, don't go in flats and a sports bra ffs.

I'm sure your chest isn't matronly. You just need the right bra. I'd agree dark skinny jeans, high boots, and a really nice top. Personally I wear sleeveless shell tops with skinnies. And I'd find a shirt a bit difficult as my chest is quite large so worry about popping buttons.

Maybe a fitted jersey wrap top? Shows off your cleaveage and waist.

Many thanks to each of you GrinGrin I knew i'd get some great answers. Trust me i'm not doing this lightly! One of the DDs has had a really bad time lately and needs to get out. She said she'd go if i went. So i'm doing it!

faux i like mint velvet, but i fear that particular top would 'tent' off my boobs and hide my waist.

mrsjay i buy my clothes in various places. H&M, Sainsburys, Blue Banana, amazon, Next, New Look, ect. Can rarely afford the things i really like, sadly. Like Mint Velvet.

floisme Grin I wouldn't dare try to keep up as such. The heels would be because they give me more height and shape and to glam up an understated everything else. The silk shirt sounds lovely, but the only flats i posses are ballet pump style.

bluntness bless you. I'm a 34/36 G/GG (depending on the bra)(Freya ect). Heading dangerously towards matronly these days. The jersey wrap sounds a good idea you know.

kungfu- 14 bottom, and the top - well anything from a 14 to a 20 depending on what it is and where i've bought it. I know that's not a lot of help.

Hmm...think you might have to order it and see...I prefer this navy cold shoulder - bit less cleavage...I am toying with getting it myself but i would probably want to replace the chain bits with black tape and i'm a bit lazy Grin

Could you ask your dds to style you?

Would something like this be your sort of thing? A bit interesting / clubby, but wearable.

Report
Laiste · 27/01/2017 17:35

Really like both of those actually. The navy is nice idea - not as ... predictable as black. The skinny jeans are from Next in deep blue. The heels are undecided.

The wings top is gorgeous but (and i hate to be one of those who keep throwing a spanner in the works) both of those tops show a bit too much arm'ige Grin

I need to tread a fine line between reveal and conceal.

My DDs, hmm, i'm guessing, but i recon one would have me in a warm jumper dress, one would probably say 'just wear a vest top' and the other would put me in a nice blouse. I'm going to ask them all later and see how close i was Grin

Looking at this now:

But concerned my norks wouldn't fit into the given area though (i would do the laces up).

Sorry but I think that Amazon top is awful and the tie up thing even worse.

I think skinnies and boots sound just right, but I honestly don't think you should be showing lots of flesh - it would look and feel a bit weird, imvho.

Something like this would maybe work - you can pin it or not depending on how much flesh you want to show.

Or something like this with a jacket over?

Or this if you don't mind arms/shoulders.

Or even something plain like this with a great necklace or cuff.

Is <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/ISASSY-Womens-Shoulder-Bandage-T-Shirt/dp/B01LW6LQ20?th=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">this the one? I really like it in the burgundy.

(though can I offer <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/ISASSY-Womens-Shoulder-Bandage-T-Shirt/dp/B01LW6LQ20?th=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">more angel wings this time with long sleeves - probably a bit over budget though!)

Not convinced about the warm jumper dress for going to a club . . .

Report
Laiste · 27/01/2017 18:40

Ooh yes the burgundy is nice. I've read the reviews though - they say it's shorter than in the pic and i really need a top which comes down to - well, crutch level. Don't mind my bottom, but i like to hide the lower tum area. Bit lumpy bumpy. 'Specially in tight jeans.

What is the angel wings one sadik? Your second link is the burgundy top again. I agree about the jumper dress! Grin

remus it's fine to be honest it's why i'm here. Trouble is with a couple of those tops is they are a bit short and arm showy. I don't want to be in a jacket - i'll not want to take it off if i'm hot. Tbh, apart from the open shoulder (and about £30) i can't see much difference between my first amazon link and the bravissimo top. Cheaper one looks a bit longer actually.

Loving the ideas. Keep them coming :)

Have a look at the Baukjen sale - everything is jersey, quite figure hugging but not revealing (I wear some of their crossover tops at work).

Otherwise, I don't think you can go wrong with skinny jeans, killer heels and a floaty 'man's' shirt that maybe just allows a glimpse of black lacy bra, accidentally like? Grin

Hmm they're a bit clingy and shiny for me. I think I'm with the daughter who'd put you in a nice blouse. I'd go for something classy. But what do I know - last time I went to a club, we were still dressing like Madonna and voguing.

I like the Reiss top that Remus linked best although it's sleeveless.

Oh cross post - I missed Pacific's links. I like that second Baukjen one.

I like to think that I dress well for my shape and age (47) and I often get compliments - my 19yo thinks I'm cool! But I've been nosing around t'internet lookng for a top I'd wear with skinnies and heels. My god. There are some godawful things out there! Either way too young or way too frumpy. We're at that awkward age aren't we?!

I'll keep looking OP! Smile

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 27/01/2017 19:09

I'd say the difference is that one has just a hint of cleavage and the other has lots of cleavage plus bare shoulders and the fabric looks generally cheaper.

Maybe not flashy enough but it is longer and not arm showy

flo Grin I'd love a nice blouse tbh. Not necessarily for the night out - just for everyday. One which will encompass my boobs and go in at the ribs/waist as well. I've been trying to get round to having a try on at Pepperberry (bravissimo).

pacific that first top's gorgeous. If it weren't for my matronly shelf i'd go for that. However high necks look appalling on me. Blue one is lovely.

purple it's fascinating isn't it? What you can find out there. I seem drawn to the cheap trash tonight Grin

OP I went clubbing recently to a real hipster place ( I was with my bestie and her new inappropriately young man and his mates).

I was dreading it. Sure I'd look an absolute tit.

In the end I opted for grey multi zip skinnies, black ankle boots (super high heels) and a top which I'll try to link to. I too am mid forties and large of boob.

Can I just say I had a fucking riot Grin. And even got chatted up (what is it with men in their twenties Confused? You'd think having children who can drive would be a no-no, but au contraire, it's like a siren for them to form an orderly queue).

I think you should step away from anything lace-up Laiste or off the shoulder. I'm thinking "pot-wench"!

The best one I've seen on this thread is the silvery? sleeveless top. I'd wear that.
