Hairdresser complaint - what to ask for?

Hi, I hope this is the right place for this.

I had my hair dyed not the weekend just gone, but the one before. I had blonde highlights but I wanted a complete change so I had the top dyed back to my natural mid brown colour and then two shades of purple graduated through the rest. I loved it but 10 days later almost all of the purple has washed out.

I'm planning on going back on Saturday to let them know what's happened. I paid £60 for this (up North) and wouldn't have expected it to have washed out so quickly.

I don't really know what to expect from the hairdressers though. Are they likely to offer to do it again for free? Or give me some some money back? I'd like to have some idea what to expect so I can have made a decision what I want them to do about it before I go, I am not great at confrontation!

Any help would be appreciated.

Starting point is what do you want?

Do you want them/trust them to do it again? Or would you rather take the money and go elsewhere?

If you trust them to do it again, I'd say you want a refund and trust that as a gesture of goodwill in order to keep you as a future client, that they will re-do it for free. [ie. your opening gambit is that you want BOTH money back and a goodwill gesture of a free re-dye]

If you are going back, you need to speak to the person in charge with authority to deal with it/offer refunds - so I wouldn't just "pop in" unannounced, I would call them up and explain what has happened and you'd like to discuss it with someone. Make an appointment to speak to the relevant person.

Purple is the worst colour for fading quickly! I'm pretty sure bright colours are only ever semi-permanent - did they tell you it would last OP?

I haven't had it with purple but my old hair dresser always warned with certain colours in reds ect that they would always fade quicker than others in my hair. By all means go back but I wouldn't be expecting them to do a lot to be honest

Thanks everyone. No, the hairdresser didn't mention that it would wash out this fast, just made another appointment for 7 weeks time. If I'd thought it wouldn't last I'd have just done it myself rather than paying a hairdresser to do it!

If you want purple you'll have to top up regularly - I'd just do it myself if I were you! Manic Panic have good purples and my sister uses Stargazer and it's great Smile

You can get all sorts of brands (and colours!) at www.beeunique.co.uk - their customer service and posting is great, and Stargazer is on sale at the moment Smile

If you had it done almost 2 weeks ago and have washed it every day then the purple will have washed out, sorry. If you want a bright, semi-permanent colour that really sticks to your hair, try a turquoise/aqua type shade.

Did you use a good quality shampoo specifically for coloured hair?

It's impossible to get permanent purple dye. My hairdresser told me it's the worst colour to maintain.
When I had purple hair I had a tub of manic panic and after washing my a hair I'd whack some on and use it like a 3 minute conditioner to top it up.
Or you just re dye it every other week.
It's a pain but purple hair is a beautiful thing.
