Gel nails

Is it possible to do a decent job of gel nails at home? I'm very tempted to buy the kit as I love the look and it's costing my a fortune twice a month. I'm just worried it will look awful and be a waste of even more money?

Yes, I do mine at home now and would never go back to a salon! I got a cheap Sensationails kit on eBay and I use gel polishes or normal polish with a gel topcoat (special polish to gel from Sensationals). The latter 'only' lasts a week but is really easy to remove, normal gel polish takes a little longer but you get 2 weeks wear from it.

I've never looked back and my kit has paid for itself a few times over, I do my DM's nails and quite a few friends have bought their own kits now!

I do my own now. I bough a bluesky kit off eBay for about £40, that included the lamp, base and topcoat and a few colours. After a couple of goes I can do as good a job as I ever got from a professional.

Yes. As PP bluesky kit. Bottle of base and top coat has lasted 4 months and another friend and I both buy and then loan each other colours which gives loads of choices. The colour change ones are fun (although I thought they'd be naff!). The advantage of Amazon is you can read the reviews and see real photos from other purchasers.

Be careful to remove them properly each time though, soaking not peeling or picking. And I leave 24 hours till I re-do. A good nail oil helps too.
