Promised myself a lux watch for milestone achievement. Is this design going to age well?

It will be the most expensive thing I own. I've been trying to find a design for about a year, this ticks all my list items off, but would love opinions.

I love it and you are saving some serious cash with that offer! For me it would a no brainer, it's an investment in yourself. Congratulations on both the milestone achievement (Very intriguing OP!) and also the fact that you are buying yourself something so special, I love that attitude. Every time you put it on you will feel great!

That's a lovely watch and a classic design
You could get a pre-owned cartier or Rolex for the same amount.

I had thought about pre owned, but I'm very taken with Ebel and I think the half price offer is a sign...

Yes! Go for it

It's beautiful - a classic design which will not age. Go for it!

I certainly wouldn't spend £2000 on an ebel from Ernest jones, but thats me.
I would sooner have a proper investment piece that i could trade up if i wanted.
I agree with Lapin on this one.

I'd go classic and vintage Cartier too with that budget

I love the style, but I don't know anything about investment-watch buying.

Also ignorant of watches in general, but that is stunning.

Going against the grain, but yes I do think it will age.

If it didn't have the bling it would stay the distance better.

It's lovely, I have an ebel gold and steel wave watch and it's serving me well. Ebel is a good make. I also have a tag one much like the one you are looking at but with far fewer diamonds, so I think that's s good price for this one.

On balance of the two though I prefer the tag. It's chunkier/larger in design and I like that.

Don't do it! I have an Ebel that sits at the back of a drawer as the yearly service was £250 and it had to be sent off for weeks so whilst it was away I ended up wearing a watch I bought from a charity shop instead!

I have a very lovely Omega watch now which I adore, personally I find Ebels quite plasticky and prefer the actual weight and style of Omega much more.

As a brand Ebel ages well, but the diamond bezel won't age well at all - sorry.

If you love it buy it but it's not an investment so to speak however why does jewellery need to be an investment? !

In my opinion jewellery is not an investment. Has anyone ever sold a watch or diamond ring for more than they bought it for? I have a classic Cartier and a Rolex, yet when I wanted to trade them in to upgrade, I was offered considerably less than half of what I had originally paid for them.

Ifonly, Well it depends on themake and specific model of watch, my oh has made 20% profit on the last few watches he bought and then subsequently sold. Diamond jewellery, no you wont make a profit, agreed. However, you wont make the loss on a rolex etc that you would on an ebel.

As for the diamonds, i have had a diamond bezel on the last few watches ive had over the last 15 yrs and theyve not been in or out of fashion. Its what appeals to you really.

Madbengalmum - I'd be interested to know where your OH sells them - does he sell them privately? Maybe I'm just not going to the right places.

I presumed that the jeweller, knowing he was going to make a decent sale on a considerably higher value watch, would have offered me more for my 'classics' to get a sale.

Watchfinder is a good and safe place to look for a good deal. Most of the dealers on here will post out and if you are not satisfied then you can return, no questions asked. My OH has sold privately and to watch dealers.

If you are spending that kind of money I would stretch your budget a little further if you can and opt for a Rolex. They are by far the most superior watches and their simple, classic designs are timeless. I bought myself one 3 years ago and I'm still in love with it. I love that it's a classic, understated design as I'm not a blingy person yet I have expensive taste Wink

I have had a similar Ebel watch for 10 years now (it is gold and silver and has the diamonds round the edge like the pic of yours). Within the guarantee period it stopped and I had it mended and serviced. That was about 8 years ago. I have worn it every day since with no problems (and no service!) and every time I take it off if I swim or bathe, I look at it and love it!

Whoever said Ebel is not an investment piece is very wrong. IIt is up there with Rolex and Cartier. And also the diamonds look the same as the day I picked it up from the shop. I love the make. That is a good price OP.

I have an Ebel watch with a diamond bezel and I love it. I've had it about 15 years and I wear it every day, so cost per wear it's worked out good value.

Buy a watch you love and enjoy wearing Smile

I have an Ebel classic wave diamond and I love it. I have had it serviced once in 12 years and I wear it every day. Only had it serviced when the battery failed.

Enjoy it, it's beautiful.
