Claggy make up after just an hour

I need a foundation with a decent coverage and am using dermablend as recommended by wise people here. But like others it's going claggy and patchy looking after an hour or so. What can I try to stop looking so cakey?

Do you use a brush to apply and primer? And also put on in thin layers ifyswim rather than a lot at once. And do you set it with spray or powder? Those things should help, no idea if you're doing all those already though...

I try to use my brushes, but usually end up with fingers... set with powder, either Nars reflective, Mac mineral or benefit pressed powder. I moisturise about 10 minutes beforehand and use either dior primer or the no 7 equivalent...

Hmm, I'm not too familiar with dermablend but are you sure the formulation is right for your skin type?

I get this with any foundation because my skin is so oily it just seems to eat away at the foundation. The only way I can stop this happening is to - moisturise 15 minutes before - apply primer and let it set for 10 minutes - apply foundation - spray a setting spray over the top and lightly press it in with a sponge - I bake the really oily parts of my face and set the rest with a powder - spray with setting spray again

I think dermablend is quite heavy.
What skin type are you?

If your skin is oily, try using a bit of setting powder over your primer and BEFORE foundation. To get rid of excess cakeyness use mac fix plus. Spray it when you're done with your make up, especially if yoj use a lot of powdery products.

Great, I'll try the spray. My skin isn't particularly oily, probably on the dry side, but I need the dermablend to cover the redness, lighter foundations just can't even the skin tone enough.

Could it be to do with your skincare regime? Do you moisturize? If so do you give it time to skin in before you do your make up? 5-10mins? Is your moisturizer too rich or not rich enough? It's hard to tell from the picture.

Sometimes a light dusting of powder before foundation can help. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it can work.
