Returning items postage tracked?

If you return an item and you have to pay the postage, do you pay extra for signed for or just standard royal mail?
I have quite a few things to return to TOAST that i bought in the sale and the miserable buggers haven't given me return postage even despite buying something at full price too. So do I return it signed for or just royal mail standard post? Just curious what others do when the return postage isn't paid.

I usually just return second class, unsigned, with proof of postage.

Never had anything go missing in the post, and in fact I returned something to Boden on Monday second class and the refund landed in my account on Friday.

I always send tracked - I had a blouse go missing that I sent back to &otherstories just before Christmas, and a couple of years back a dress to Urban Outfitters. Even if the company send a pre-paid label I "upgrade" to signed for.
