Baby Changing Bag

Looking for some advice on a stylish yet practical bag to have as a changing bag for when my little one arrives.

As a handbag lover I was really excited about shopping for one but haven’t been too impressed or excited so far.

I don’t really like the ‘cute’ patterned wipe clean type bag (although completely get why wipe clean is useful!).

I was looking at this:
www.jemandbea.com/collection/amber-grey-white
but can’t see it anywhere in real life and it is also a completely impractical colour - does anyone have any experience with this brand?

Also this in pewter:
www.pacapod.com/firenze-leather-changing-bag.html
Anyone seen or owned this in real life?

Any other recommendations :) TIA

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round-up of the best changing bags.

If you like handbags, don't get a changing bag. They are heavy, unstylish and impractical

Get a small wet bag to put nappies, some wipes and whatever in. Then that can be put in and out of any bag you already have.
www.kingdomfluff.co.uk/nappy-wet-bags-c-57

Buy a 'close' folding changing may and add to the wet bag. www.babipur.co.uk/close-parent-change-go-mat.html

That way you can swap size bags you want daily if you like, your Dh can chuck into his bag or can throw under pram.

I had a pacapod and hated it, sold it in eBay. Reasons I hated it were I couldn't get the pods in and out of the bag with one hand (other hand holding my DD) and all I could fit in the bag was the pods, not the rest of the (I admit somewhat excessive) crap I carried around. Best advice would be to get one that can clip to the handle if your pram, which also means your pram basket is free for shopping!

That pewter bag above it lovely. But that's a size to take as hand luggage on a plane, not to have to carry every day the next 2-3 years around locally

Yep I'm not getting one.

Going for the rucksack option as that suits my lifestyle better.

BUT if I was a handbag person, I'd get a wet bag for nappies and wipes and shove it in my normal bag.

Love the first one!

I recommend Pacapod, I have a different shape what the one you've highlighted and love it! I miss my Mulberry when out with the baby so wanted something practical but not as ugly as many if the nappy bags out there

I already have this (but in black and for half the price from tkmaxx)
www.johnlewis.com/skip-hop-pronto-changing-station-bag/p791324
and thought it was pretty good for chucking in a handbag or for dh to take out.

I just really fancied a really nice bag as thats my ‘thing’ but perhaps I should just treat myself to a new tote and the wee extras to move from bag to bag to suit the baby. I wondered about getting a little soft lunch box type thing for a change of clothes, dummy, toy etc to go in and that travel mat thing. Like the idea of the wet bag.

I use a really small, not very stylish, cosmetic bag with really strong sides and zips. It's like luggage.

Only take three nappies and a small tin or part used soft pack of wipes. There is still room for a change of clothes and a mat. A bottle or jar of food. Use a strong bag so you can squash it in. You have to top it up every time you go out, but if you like bags you are used to that kind of palaver! I managed two babies a year apart in the same small bag, both on bottles. (Foster carer).

I'd go for something dark or easy to clean though, because it does sit on the side in public washrooms etc.

Defiantly just treat yourself to a nice roomy handbag

Get to Ikea for their amazing sandwich bags (six sizes in three different colours).

Ikea change mat.

Just chuck stuff into a nice handbag that will outlast the baby phase.

These are really handy to pre load with wipes, change of clothes, dummy, muslin etc and just dump them into whatever bag you choose.

Def just get another nice bag. Can use for years then

I have a lovely small leather rucksack from Smythsons I used with mine a lot. Easier to use when baby in sling also. Now school age I still use loads as my main bag

The x small wet bags fit in my smallish Chanel bags also.

But yes the wet bags are basically small Toiletry bags if you already have. I used reusable nappies mainly hence wanted something def waterproof

I had a pacapod and it was okay, I still use the pods but not the bag. I now have a Fjallraven Kranken which I love.

I hated every pram bag I saw. So I decided to just use the one that came with the pram and bought a Mulberry Anthony for my purse/phone and keys.

Worked like a charm Grin

How about a storksak elizabeth bag? I think John Lewis sell these so you can have a look instore

I'm looking for a new changing bag as well I had yummy mummy and babymel bags last time which were nice and very useful. Looking for something more handbagy this time.

I'm not sure about using an existing handbag as a change bag, I remember how useful it was to wipe clean the inside as well as outside and also the insulated pockets for bottles etc.

I couldn't find a single bearable change bag. Honestly.

I used the JoJo Maman change pouch (similar to the skip hop but much more compact). Then I just carried on as usual with my usual bags.

Started out using a Mulberry Alexa - too fiddly in the end... tried lots of bags but landed on the Fossil preston flap (large) & it was/is perfect. Bayswater was sturdy but too heavy & LV Neverfull too roomy even with a liner.

Obviously if you have a puker all bets are off. Wink

I have the JoJoMaman pouch too and agree it is fab and much more compact than the skip hop one. They also sell little plastic wipes boxes so I keep a couple of nappies, wipes and some nappy bags in the pouch. Then I have a clear cosmetics bag (think it came in a 3 pack from boots - I use the smaller one) and I put a change of clothes in that. Then the extra stuff changes as the baby grows - I no longer need muslins or bottles but now need snacks and sippy cups so I bring a ziplock bag with that in it. I throw all of this plus my own bits and pieces into a large tote and it's MUCH better than a nappy bag. I've been using a large Longchamp le pliage for ages now and it's perfect - light so doesn't add to the load and it wipes clean.

Yes the wipes pouch is good too! I used to keep nappies in the net bit and a tube of metanium. Then a travel pack of wipes in the plastic bit. In the zip outside went 2 sachet of calpol and nappy bags.

I love my storksak.
I have this one here but in the summer limited edition leather...

storksak.com/changing-bags/noa-leather-clay

It's a fab size, looks like a handbag and has a removable insert which is handy for putting into hubby's bag if he has wee one.

Oh I like those tibaandmarl backpacks. With 2 kids now I really want a backpack but they're all huge. I just want a small/medium one.

Fjallraven Kanken original is the perfect 2 kids change bag size. Also reasonable stylish with no embarrassing embroidery Grin

This is my changing bag- comes in tan and grey as well.

It doesn't look much in the picture but it's relatively cheap, simple and smart (I hate the pink lining style bags)

It hangs on the pram and goes with everything, you can fit everything you need inside and it has a pocket to keep your bottle warm.

You could spend the extra money on a lovely small handbag for your keys and purse etc.

I've had about 5 changing bags, from fancy leather Storksak (too heavy) to black Herschel backpack (a bit too utilitarian), and a few in between.

Currently I'm using a large Longchamp le Pliage and it's fab - wipe clean, over the shoulder carry, can attach to the buggy with a buggy clip.

Get a couple of canvas pouches to go inside to organise all the baby crap and you're away.

I've a 1 and a 2 year old and it copes well with all their accoutrements without making me feel like I've completely lost all style.

Grin yep if i have puker I’m done Agatha
Lainypopps I really like that storksak one - actually looks like a handbag!
I like the plastic ikea bag idea too...I already use them around the house a lot Grin.
I hope to breastfeed so shouldn’t always need bottles etc with me so not sure if ill need the insulated part of a usual changing bag anyway.

Thanks for all the advice Smile

I love changing bags - Jujube, Babymel & Vanchi are my favourite brands. Vanchi bags look most like handbags but super organisation inside. I have the doctor bag in black and the Zepljn in Stone & they are just fab.
