Sudden onset of double chin and Turkey neck!

Hi all,
I'm hoping some of you may have had similar experience to share or words of wisdom. I am 37 and in the last 12 months have rapidly developed a double chin and what is starting to look like turkey neck from the side. I am losing my jawline and starting get to see jowls appearing (ok they're a long way off still but I seem to have lost all definition along my jawline). Has anyone else had this happen so quickly? I am feeling quite shocked about it, so while I'm not normally very vain I do feel self conscious about this as it doesn't feel like 'me'!! I have two young children and the last 4 years have been hard work and sleep deprived so maybe it's just that. I'm sure losing a few kilos would help too! Just reaching out for a bit of moral support. Anyone else out there feeling the same?! Thanks

This happens to me when I put on even a little weight. It goes again when I lose the weight. I think diet and exercise are your answer.

Thanks burnished. Really glad to hear you can make it go away!! Just nice to hear someone else has the same experience. I was almost considering seeing the doctor at one point as it seemed to come out of nowhere!

Turkey this could be me! I'm 37 and my jawline has steadily been disappearing for the past 3 months!! I'm about to cut down drastically on white carbs (bread, pasta etc) for a couple of months - hope this makes a difference!

Staring down at a phone does this as well. It's a bit of an epidemic.

This has slightly happened to me too, but mine was caused by taking steroids on and off for a year! I had it, it's like a pillow under my chin!

Hate it!

Thanks for the support ladies! Good point gamer chick, in fact I got my new phone in June and spend way more time on it than I did before. And I've really noticed it since the summer, I swear it wasn't there before!! Will try and cut down phone use. Also very good advice Fiddlefigs, I went no carb for 6 weeks in Feb and lost 4 kilos so maybe it has all gone back on my upper torso! I am planning to go low carb again longer term so hopefully that will zap it!

Could it be phone usage? If so will it disappear with lowered usage?

It can be genetic and can remain even after you lose weight. Sorry. I have dropped a dress size and it is still there.

My mums chin is ok and my dads, I think it's the legacy of the steroids, I am a stone heavier due to them, hopefully now I'm off them it should shrink to it's former glory!

I am older than you and my jowls and turkey neck were getting me down. Before Christmas I had a treatment called Ultherapy that will (hopefully) tighten it all up again. It takes 3-6 months to take affect but I am pretty sure I can already see a difference in my chin area. I hope it works as it was expensive and uncomfortable.

Liiinoo, I'd be really interested to hear how you got on with the Ultherapy. Perhaps it's still a bit early to tell but have you noticed any difference? Also how painful did you find the treatment? Thanks.

Re: the gazing (especially down) into a screen - nothing worse than when the screen goes black and you suddenly see yourself, viewed from up the boob shelf, scowling, with about 100 chins.

Happens with my laptop occasionally and i always think bloody hell sit up woman and stretch your neck out! GrinGrin

I lost 30kg last year and am not impressed by the state of my chin. I was fine before the weight loss, but now I have turkey neck and jowls which I guess is loose skin. Really want to loose a bit more weight, but can't bare to if this is going to get worse.
