I need a new hairstyle.
I have thick brown wavy hair that just sits on my head.
It is so dull.

I need advice, what ought I have done to it?
I have stuck a before picture of me in a profile. View it all she who dares.

I am thinking layers and highlights, but I really haven't a clue!

you could have a fringe cut in, have it cut into a bob - not too short, but get rid of some of the length, and have goldy/red highlights!

brimfull · 20/02/2007 22:22

I like your hair

StrangeTown · 20/02/2007 22:22

Spag, your hair is lovely, like Debra Winger! (The woman from Officer and Gentleman...) Some layers will prob be enough without the endless hassle and expense of highlights.

Spagblog · 20/02/2007 22:23

No, no. Can't do fringes.

I have a strange long thin head (as you can see) fringes just swamp my features and display my Bruce Forsythe chin.

goldy red highlights sound good though

Not that I don't like your hair! At least you've got lots to do stuff with - go to a posh hairdressers and ask them what they think - hopefully they'll be able to give you lots of ideas!

controlfreakyandroses · 20/02/2007 22:24

i know you didnt ask about them but if you are thinking makeover those glasses are not flattering on you....

paulinec · 20/02/2007 22:24

Hi Spagblog, i have had a look at your photo, and I dont think that your hair is too bad. You obviously have wavy hair and should encourage the wave rather than go against it, unless you want to straighten it every day. More body is definately order of the season, why not got an inch or so cut off with a few layers in ro really oopmh up your curl. Brunette is also hot this season so what about some caramel low lights that simmer in the light!!!!

Go to a good hairdresser, before booking make sure they will be totally honest with you. xx

Let me know

brimfull · 20/02/2007 22:24

YOu have an oval face ,so apparently the world is your oyster when it comes to hairstlyes

Heavenis · 20/02/2007 22:25

I think you have to much weight at the bottom of your hair.

If you wan to keep the length then I would maybe suggest something that is a bit chopper.

Highlights would look good too.

controlfreakyandroses · 20/02/2007 22:26

your hair is basically great. layers are imho the way to go

Spagblog · 20/02/2007 22:26

I know controlfreaky... DS broke my unbreakable framed ones and these are my hideous polorising specsaver ones.

See my other thread about the horrors of a contact lens appointment though...What to do, what to do!

To be fair I need a complete head to toe makeover, but wasn't taking a full body photo!!!

Lovely hair already and fab condition!

Layers at the front would be good to frame your face and I think coppery/gold highlights but only get them through the top and sides not a full head. It's much cheaper and easier to maintain!

Heavenis · 20/02/2007 22:27

You could have a fringe but probably not the traditional straight across one. I would say to be blended in with the side.

Spagblog · 20/02/2007 22:27

So layers, how short ought I go?

OP posts:
poptot · 20/02/2007 22:27

Hair is lovely but would benefit from layers and a few highlights and some new trendy specs

alarkaspree · 20/02/2007 22:27

I like your hair too. Lovely colour. But if you want to make it a bit more hairstyley some choppy layers to lose some of the volume at the bottom would look great I think.

controlfreakyandroses · 20/02/2007 22:29

lol. glad i didnt offend you!

crispyduck · 20/02/2007 22:29

Warm copper tones, red fades and is a bugger to get out if you dont like it.. something that is low maintenance like highlights.
Go to a a salon which uses loreal majarel colours, they are fab....

Aloha · 20/02/2007 22:30

I really like your hair. It's very Rachel Weisz. YOu look very pretty. A bit of a trim maybe, but the colour is fabulous on you. You so do NOT have a strange thin head. YOu look elegant. And I am not a remotely gushy person so you can believe me!

themoon66 · 20/02/2007 22:31

I'd chop it off bluntly at jaw length and have a sort of whispy sideways swept fringe TBH.

Spagblog · 20/02/2007 22:31

DH said I could take some money out of his account to get a haircut, but I'll probably have to either wait until my birthday, or get creative in the bedroom to get new specs!

I am quite of your hair

Please DON'T have any colour or highlights. It's a pain in the arse, and I have to do it now due to grey. I am also not that keen on layers. They are rather old fashioned and also difficult with wavy hair - can make it bushy. Your hair colour is perfect for you. New glasses would be a much better choice!

flutterbee · 20/02/2007 22:32

Yes choppy layers is definately the way to go, I would have the start at about mid cheek length so that the hair will fall flatteringly around you face. A hairdresser will give an expert view on this of course but I think layers would look fab on you.

I would suggest stearing away from red highlights and stick to golden colours but applied few and far between.

HTH.

Look, I've edited a hair magazine! Listen to ME!
Hair fab, face lovely, glasses a bit old fashioned. Ditch glasses, keep face and hair.
