A Crepey New Year to you all.

Just back from a bracing walk up to Epsom Downs - crisp sunshine, horses and dogwalkers - lovely. Needed a restorative coffee and mince pie afterwards!

I stood on the scales this morning for a laugh. Heaviest. Bodyweight. Ever. I'm wearing my Woolovers Guernsey jumper today, and it's actually on the tight side; when you use the words "Woolovers" and "tight" in the same sentence, you know you're in trouble. Blush

Very quick login to say Herbs so sorry to hear about poor old puss. Especially hard coming at the same time as MiL. May your year only get better.Flowers

Crem - thanks for new thread and have noted March datesSmile

NU thanks for Mauritius info - I'm surprised you say it's not attractive as it looks gorgeous on the publicity shots. Have looked at air fares and these alone are going to cost about 2k each which makes 10k for the five of us. Not sure it's a goer at this price.

Sorry Herbs, I am choked about your kitty, coming so soon after Mil, and also in the same wretched way as Cremcat. Had a little cry very loudly while hoovering up the last of the Xmas tree needles.
I would let him slip away at the vets, in a planned way. Watching cremcat in pain was dreadful.
SadSadSad I'm so sorry about everything, and that it has all come at once.

Herbs so sorry about cat.
Here fab afternoon with my bff who is to blame for Flash... and she admits he's less sedate than he was :)

Herbs re homework - I wouldn't push it. He's very young still. Let him do what he wants. Don't become the baddie in it.

Aw, Crem. Sorry I've brought it all back about your dear old pusscat. We've just been to visit Herbcat in hospital, and he's remarkably bright, if very thin and weak. He's about a third of the volume of the vast fluffy cat in the pen next door.

The plan is to bring him home, but if he can't eat or drink at home, or shows any signs of suffering, we'll know the time has come and will get him PTS. Perhaps at home, as Mrs S suggested.

Re homework, I do generally just let him get on with it, and the teacher isn't bothered, but wonder if this lack of application will become a hard habit to break. I'll leave him alone for now...

NU sorry you're still in pain even though youre are recovering overall. Flowers
Poor DCat herbs. Maybe what crem says? So sorry. I'm sure MiniHerbs reactions to the loss of DMIL will be age appropriate. I guess at his stage kids are very concrete about things and it takes a while for emotion to catch up. Flowers to you all x

DH is in the train back to the Smoke. I have just read his entry in the visitors book... he has made lyrical references to the many meals in varied local hostelry...and not a word about the two (2 ii) Xmas dinners that I cooked and served. Hmm Angry I am the disappearing woman...

herbaceous · 02/01/2017 17:12

I can't just have him put down while he still seems to be enjoying life, though. He's eating, purring and likes being stroked. I suspect this won't last long once he's off his drip, and know what to do then. Sad It will be days, not weeks.

Rose - I thought the point of visitors books is to guide upcoming guests to local attractions. Upcoming guests would not be able to sample your Christmas dinners, sadly...

Thank you for new thread, Crem.

Herbs, so sorry puss update is not better. I'd investigate the vet at home option as just getting into the basket is so stressful for them and being at home in the warm would be a very gentle way of slipping off.

Cv, I did chuckle at your woolovers comment. Even autocorrect wants it to be "wool oversized" Smile. I am vast myself at the moment and am going to have to find something elasticated to pour myself into for tomorrow. A few weeks if cleanish living should start to make a difference, I hope.

I have put Christmas stuff away and am now supervising the end of homework and the washing of hair etc in time for d day tomorrow.

Herbs, you will know when it is time. The vet told me that with my dear old Puss cat (who was 22), and he was right. She sat on my lap and purred while I stroked her (the first time she had purred in a long time) and it was very peaceful. She was senile and had kidney failure. I had booked several times to have her PTS and cancelled at the last minute before. She had stopped eating and drinking the day before, and the time was right.

Sorry to hear your news, Herbs....

Lovely start to the day. Breakfast with Rose in a 16th century tea room! Rose knows places I've never been into (and I've lived here forever Smile)

Here there is furious packing for Dh and the girls who are off skiing for five days. I get to stay and revise for GCSE mocks....

I also seem to be responsible for dd2 packing, holiday insurance, euros and travel adaptors, which is weird as I'm not even bloody going Angry

Ah Beachy, that's the shiitake end of the stick my friend. Hope it's a peaceful time for you.
How is ds doing ATM?
And I was thinking of you BTM , and your ds too.

Herbs, I hadn't the heart to put CRemcat to sleep. Dh couldn't have borne it. ( he's very gooey on the inside) don't worry about setting me off. I am beyond shattered with tiredness and wibbly with hormones and fed up to the back teeth of dh, lolling around the house without seeing the filth. You know how it goes. Angry

I am eating a tiny bowl of porridge for dinner, a la Rose, as even with the scary meds, I am suffering dans la nuit. I have lost. Weight. Over. Christmas, and will never get those mince pies back again.

Empty house tomorrow ga ha-hauhhhaaaaaa!!!!

Mrs S, the Nyx in my big Boots doesn't carry the BB cream. I searched front and back of the display about six times, willing it to appear but it didn't. I bought some new pillows in the Debenhams sale. V v cheap and cheering. V close to booking NYC via Vitgin hols - so excited.

Herbs our visitors book is more like a blog of life at the flat...although it has recommendations in it. Probably a misnomer!

Oh goodness waf you poor thing. Are you awaiting surgery...? My top tips for treating the symptom (I manage my HH because I give hospitals a very wide birth unless I have no choice) as well as the porridge (but that is for every meal for a few days...) , max dose of meds, add in as much Gaviscon as you can neck in a day...can't do any harm...sit upright..no sofas,..or eat standing up...(no...really) ....alternate the yoga cat and dog position to relieve pressure....all the stuff you know but if I'm strict with it, all calms down but never straight away. Takes up to a week with me. Sorry it's ruined your Christmas.

Herbs, so sorry about dpuss. We had to face this with last dcat when she was 18 with kidney failure and not enjoying life. We roasted her a chicken for her last night meal and both took her to the vet and it was vv peaceful though sad.

Waf sorry about the hh. Sounds horrendous.

Lovely walk in bp with btm yesterday although was suffering with horrendous hangover and had to stop to throw up on occasion. Btm v tolerant.

On bus to work - with here we go again feelings.

Mrs W - place on Vancouver island sounds amazing.

I think I love you Addle! I think you and I are the only two Crepeys that would do that! (I had to get off the bus home on my birthday last year to be sick and managed to get it on my shoes.)

I am kicking DD1's arse today as it transpires that she has done virtually nothing on her planned work schedule for the holiday, and there are three things that HAVE to be handed in this week. One is nearly complete, one is not started and one is barely started. Plus she has an essay that she was supposed to do over the holidays that hasn't been started.

I am SO glad I booked this week off. I will let the world get back to normal before I join it....

Sorry I couldn't join you in BP, addl e & BTM. Glad you had a good airing. I did manage a walk in the woods here & was up all day y'day, so starting to recover a bit. .

Happy NY and new thread everyone. I quickly got over my annoyance with Dnephew but thanks for the understanding comments. The rest of the time with visitors was lovely. Both DSis2 & her DH relaxed properly & we had a pleasant atmosphere as in days of old.

DD has done some work, not as much as she'd hoped or planned, but some. I was planning to tackle more of DM's stuff this week but can't face it, so need Plan B. Maybe the study?

DP off sorting out priests, funerals, etc today. He was working until midnight, then up at 6.30, a pattern he's been following for a while now. He looks utterly exhausted, but I'm guessing is afraid to stop moving or he'll be overwhelmed. So of course the worst thing I could do would be to have a massive cry about the cat this morning.

I'm going to pick him up today and bring him home, to see how he does. And I've googled 'what to do if your cat dies at home'. The answer isn't 'bury it in the garden', as that's against the rules, apparently.

To cheer myself up last night I was looking for adoptable kittens. I particularly want a Maine Coon or similarly characterful and friendly pusscat, like Herbcat, but this obviously can't be guaranteed when adopting a moggy...

And I've got lots of freelance work to do, and am starting teaching a new course next week and have done nothing about it. Bottoms.

Report
MrsSchadenfreude · 03/01/2017 11:05

Herbs - a cat rescue place should be able to tell you if a cat is confident and friendly. Although ours is extraordinarily thick and excessively needy, and they didn't tell us that. You could look at Maine Coon rescue?
