One intended to last you a lifetime? smile

HolgerDanske Sat 31-Dec-16 18:35:58

I would pay up to £400 but I would generally buy in the sales to reduce cost further.

Ok thanks - I have seen one for £399 reduced to £279 and just wondering if I can justify the investment! It is very beautiful smile

I've never seen a good one for less than a few hundred. Which is why I've never managed to persuade myself! I'd love one at some point though...

PNGirl Sat 31-Dec-16 23:01:01

About £350. I don't see the value in ones that are a grand!

notagiraffe Sat 31-Dec-16 23:05:34

starlight - that's a bargain. I bought one for £400 over twenty years ago. It was an absolute fortune back then, but it's a classic cut, has never dated and I still wear it.

AyeAmarok Sat 31-Dec-16 23:15:08

About £300-£350.

If you buy a good one in a classic shape and colour, it really will last a lifetime, and get better with age.

Go for it!

There's a few nice ones in the all saints sale at the moment. Tempted as I wanted one for a 40th present to myself, but my birthday is a few months away and I'm trying to lose weight first.

Well I have been out enjoying NYE so sorry for the delayed response and I hope you've all had a fab night grin

You all sound very knowledgable, so...

this is the one that I'm thinking of. It actually looks a million times better than the photos; it's a beautiful navy blue and the leather is ridiculously soft.

I always thought if I got a leather jacket it'd be a black one but this one is just lovely and DH is v encouraging grin

But I have never spent that amount on a single piece of clothing ever before in my life!!!

I have a dark grey All Saints one that I paid £230ish for and although that seemed like a lot at the time, I've worn it so much already and will keep doing so. My old Gap one (£140ish) got worn to death too so i feel like I can justify it! I can't see that'd I'd ever pay more than £300ish though, even if I was minted.

I have vintage (though near pristine) motorbike leathers. Because of the unusual cut and colour (asymmetric zip, blood red) I'd be looking at at least £1000 to replace it with something even remotely similar, likely more

Marmalade85 Sun 01-Jan-17 01:31:23

That's a good deal OP. Go for it

LouiseBrooks Sun 01-Jan-17 01:43:08

I bought myself one for Xmas in 1987, gorgeous, soft dark brown leather, by Mary Quant. It cost me £199 which, looking back, must have been a bloody fortune. I have no idea how much that would equate to now.

I haven't worn it for years, it's just hanging up in the coat cupboard.

PrimalLass Sun 01-Jan-17 08:40:01

I have a navy one from Next. It was £80 in the sale. The leather is lovely.

Manijo Sun 01-Jan-17 08:45:47

I have one from Massimo Dutti. Paid about 250 for it and my DD has one from ALL Saints. Both are lovely leather. If you can find a nice one in ALL SAINTS sale i would go for it.

BabyHamster Sun 01-Jan-17 08:49:58

I love the one you've linked to, OP.

noeuf Sun 01-Jan-17 08:53:16

I'd stick to black or dark grey tbh. The style is okay but the colour isn't what I would choose

I've owned a fair few leather jackets and very expensive ones too. I got this one and can tell you the quality is amazing. A beautiful jacket. After owning this one I wouldn't spend more than £100 again. The price tag when it arrived said £270.

hollyisalovelyname Sun 01-Jan-17 10:43:53

OP Pure is a good, quality brand.
Have you tried Massimo Dutti ?
Their leather is lovely too.

QuiltedAloeVera Sun 01-Jan-17 10:47:55

Go for it OP.

I found a Calvin Klein one in TK Maxx for £150 (from around £400 rep). Haven't really taken it off since.

I know black or grey might be more classic but I don't think black ones look that great on me!

I think I might just go for it shock

yellowstarlight Sun 01-Jan-17 11:07:49

Thanks for the reassurance about Pure; must say I'd never heard of it! Is it a JL own brand?

Floisme Sun 01-Jan-17 11:17:04

They're not a John Lewis brand (unless they've been taken over recently but I don't think so). They used to sell mainly cashmere but they've branched out a bit. I've only bought from them a couple of times but the quality was very good.

I agree about not getting black if it doesn't suit you.

Beachcomber Sun 01-Jan-17 11:17:19

I recently bought one from Zara for less than 100 quid and I can't believe how nice it is for the money.
