i find they always end up looking waynetta slob-esque

even ones that look nice when you first buy them

i don't want a towelling affair

current one is an m&s waffle pattern cotton one

tried the white company but they only have arse-skimming ones in atm

LOLAre you asking for the impossible?
Just the mention of 'dressing gown' conjours up images of my gran.
Personally, i like a towelling bath robe...except that when i bend over it tends to wedge between my buttocks ang remains there until carefully removed! Sorry not being much help

Habitat has some quite nice linen kimono style dressing gowns in soft muted colours

They are long and as far as I remember, reasonably priced

Any of the Lands End ones take your fancy? I've currently got a waffle one from the White Company, but there don't seem to be any on their website.

Toast do seriously lovely ones - they are a little pricey but they have good sales, and they last forever - the sale may still be on, not sure. I just bought my second velvet one (first died after three years), but they also do linen, silk, etc. www.toast.co.uk - can't recommend them enough

bugger. Just checked their website and they have stopped doing any dressing gowns!!! Next choice would be liberty in regent street where they had some really nice unusual ones, around £100 I think - I did a big search in january and almost got a velvet one there but it was just a little too thin. There were some great thin cotton ones too with wonderful exotic liberty prints (but not tacky if you know what I mean)

The White Co waffle gown is most def not arse skimming, I have one so I do know! It is mid calf length and I think more flattering that any other I have tried (slim fit and material not bulky). Might also be worth looking at figleaves.co.uk if you dont wan't waffle, or even M&S? Also Bonsoir have some, can't find catalogue just now but if you google you will find them....

ooh thanks all

what would you suggest on the white co's unisex sizing, pannacotta? medium? (i'm a medium sort of laydee normally)

the pic here makes it look ghastly, but my sister and I both have fabulous dressing gowns by Elle from John Lewis - they're not towelling but a kind of thinner cotton fleece and are light enough that they drape gracefully rather than bundle up at the waist.

I got a lovely fluffy one from Next for Christmas, its like a towelling one but really soft and fluffy and warm.

Those waffle designs always shrink, I find.

I have the long polar fleece one from Lands End. Better to buy it towards the beginning of the winter than the end, as it's very light but also very warm. Completely indispensible: washable, drys in about 10 minutes in the tumble dryer, warm, cosy, not totally unflattering, covers everything. I don't think this is relevant for you Tutter, but it would be by top buy for anybody having a baby in Autumn/Winter. I didn't even bother having a dressing gown pre-children. After all, what conceivable circumstance would have you wrenched out of bed in the night/early morning so that you'd need one? Happy days.....
