Tips for a perfect New Year's Eve selfie

Make-up tips:

Eye Make-Up
As evening eye make-up tends to be heavier and darker, make sure you apply your eye make-up prior to your concealer or foundation. This way, you avoid dealing with any eye shadow fall-out.

Choose The Correct Concealer
When concealing redness or pimples, use a concealer that perfectly matches your skin tone. Apply it BEFORE your foundation. However, if you would like to disguise dark circles under your eyes then apply concealer AFTER you’re finished with the foundation. When you use concealer under your eyes, apply it closer to the bridge of your nose as that’s exactly where dark circles hide.

Choose Thicker Foundation
You need to use thicker foundation. BB and CC creams are too transparent. If you don’t like thick foundations you can always mix them with your BB and CC cream to slightly thin them out. If you have oily skin, go for hyaluronic-based foundations rather than oil-based. I’m a big fan of Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint by Hourglass. Of course, don’t forget to moisturize and prep your skin before applying any make-up, this is the non-negotiable first step in any make-up routine.

Mix In Hyaluronic Serum or Fluid
Mix moisturizing hyaluronic fluid into your foundation. This will help to prevent excess oil or dryness in your skin.

How To Apply Foundation
Apply your foundation in layers, rather than a large amount at once to avoid that ‘cakey’ look. A simple solution is to use a Beauty Blender, to work your foundation in layer by layer. Allow some time for the foundation to ‘settle’ on your skin after applying each layer – just as you would when applying nail varnish. And I wouldn’t apply more than three layers.

After 15 minutes, soak your Beauty Blender in tepid water and gently press it against your entire face. After this, the foundation will completely sink-in, ultimately leaving your skin looking natural and radiant.

Setting Powder
My Beauty Insider

If you don’t have dry skin, use translucent setting powder on your T-zone. One of the best setting powders that I’ve tried is by Light Reflecting Setting Powder by NARS. It’s a lightweight, translucent powder which optimizes light reflection to optically fade fine lines and pores. It’s enriched with Vitamin E and glycerin, which help guard against dryness.

Strike A Pose!
Always choose the least yellow lighting for a photo. For the seductive Goddess look, hold your camera higher than your face. Stand up straight (pretend like you’re a puppet with a string holding you from above), open your lips slightly and make sure you deliver that message through your eyes. Then post away!

Thanks, I'll remember to do all that whilst sitting in my PJ's with a tub of ice cream hmm

QueenMortificado Sat 31-Dec-16 12:24:56

Thanks for this OP. I have a scab on my chin and a monobrow, what angle would you suggest I take the photo to avoid highlighting those?

OverScentedFanjo Sat 31-Dec-16 12:32:08

Please don't take this post too seriously... it's in style & beauty topic for a reason.

@ QueenMortificado - kudos for monobrow! Thick eyebrows are quite 'in' these days.

Wow. Just wow confused

BellonaBelladonna Sat 31-Dec-16 15:11:09

Oh, is it the 'Opening Lips Slightly and Delivering That Message Through the Eyes' that invariably comes out as Vapid Selfie Duckface Pout?

I did wonder what effect they were actually trying for. Now I understand that those women are just vacant with the sheer exhaustion of applying three non-cakey layers with their damp Beauty Blenders while making Seductive Goddess faces.

addstudentdinners2 Sat 31-Dec-16 15:22:03

My NYE will involve eating a large burger in front of the tv and being asleep by 10pm.

What look would you suggest for me?

FatGreen Sat 31-Dec-16 15:26:50

But studentdinners, will you look like a Seductive Goddess while you're doing it???

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Sat 31-Dec-16 15:26:55

Also say the word "poo" aloud when taking the selfie for that ultimate pouty look. (Ignore puzzled looks from other party goers, they're just jealous).

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Sat 31-Dec-16 15:30:19

studentdinners Can I suggest removing the sliced bap and inserting into your bra for an enhanced cleavage? A little tomato relish blended onto cheeks will give you a rosy glow and voila, perfect sexy selfie.

IHateAnxiety Sat 31-Dec-16 15:44:52

ILostIt been a while since I've laughed out loud at something on MN grin

TheGonnagle Sat 31-Dec-16 15:47:26

Gosh. Thanks.

DianaT1969 Sat 31-Dec-16 16:20:22

Who are you? What?

hugoagogo Sat 31-Dec-16 17:07:39

Layers of foundation?
Is this why so many young ladies are a weird colour and need to spend hours doing make up?
Further evidence, were it needed, that the world has indeed gone mad sad

FrustratedFrugal Sat 31-Dec-16 17:57:12

Thanks for the instructions:
Here's my perfect selfie!
I may have used a filter wink

Happy New Year!

FrustratedFrugal Sat 31-Dec-16 17:58:32

Sorry, obviously too pissed to attach pesky files wink

QueenMortificado Sat 31-Dec-16 18:00:25

Oh god frustrated, you are so sexy! So beautiful! You look like a model! Just how did you perfect that pout?! It really looks like you're on a magazine shoot at the beach or something. Perfection!

Hellofromtheotherside16 Sat 31-Dec-16 18:05:01

I was going to take op seriously till I saw the replies grin.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Sat 31-Dec-16 18:12:12

Frustrated Gawjus love`! You've definitely delivered the message through your eyes, as advised.

I'd suggest adopting that facial expression if you're trying to get served a drink tonight. You're guaranteed to catch people's eye.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes Sat 31-Dec-16 18:12:13

How is this?

Blacksox Sat 31-Dec-16 18:13:46
