Gel extensions

I'm a nail biter, so a few years back I used to have gel extensions and then infills every couple of weeks. I was always very pleased with them and they looked very natural.

Anyhow, I had a set of gel extensions done this morning (plastic tips, then gel overlays) and I'm so disappointed with them.

The gel isn't smooth, and where it meets my cuticles it looks ragged and uneven. They just look messy and amateurish.

Can I ask how good your gels look? Maybe I have imagined how good mine used to look, and this is as good as it gets?

I'll try and take a photo so you can see what I'm on about...

No they shouldn't be uneven on the actual gel. They should be smooth all over, especially the cuticle!

Go back and ask them to be redone!

Actually this photo is probably clearer.

They don't look great to be honest....they look too thick and there's too much of a gap already. I had these done today, no tips just a thin overlay over mine. They are smooth.

They are definitely too thick, it makes them look really unnatural. I wouldn't be happy either. These are mine at 10 days so not perfect now, they are much thinner though. I would go back and ask for them to be redone.

Yours look lovely, really neat and nicely finished right up to the cuticle.

The fact I have tips shouldn't make any difference should it?

I can't really complain because a friend's DD did them, and she's newly trained. But I think mine look really scruffy Sad

I'd go back too.

bad yours look much better than mine, and mine were done today!

You're right, mine look much too thick and gloopy. Do you have tips?

I think your friend needs more practise. They don't look great, as long as you are not paying, then let her practise on you - but get some proper remover (there is special soak stuff you can get for gel nails).

These were mine on the day they were done.

I gave her £25, as a token gesture (she only asked for £20).

She used all LCN products, which I know is a good brand.

Just disappointed my hands will look a mess for for tomorrow night Sad

Will see how quickly I can get an appointment with a decent technician next week.

Your gel looks thinner and sits absolutely flush to your cuticles too. On some nails I already have an (uneven) 2mm gap!

Eeek, I pay £25 to have mine done by a very experienced nail technician (she has a home salon, so it is cheaper) - it's takes about an hour.

Omg, they look terrible.
Will it ruin your nails to get them taken off asap?

Yes mine have tips. They should be about the thickness of a credit card all over.

Is it formal dress tomorrow? Might you get away with wearing something like opera gloves?

I like to keep my nails short, you look like your nail beds are very wide MaQ, yours might look better if you had them a little longer do you think?

Mine are much thicker than a credit card, I think Sad

It's just a casual house party tomorrow night, but people are going a bit dressed up. I'm wearing nice jeans and a velvet top, so think opera gloves might be OTT...

Bugger Sad

Tallulah yes, my own nails are wide, so I need more length, definitely. They just look wrong and not properly proportioned at all Sad

Though the white probably isn't helping, they're a bit chewing gum piece. Gosh, sorry, but you really do need to complain.
Anyway what colour are you wearing, I know it's generally black/red/navy/silver at this time of year but maybe a pop of something brighter could help?

I would go somewhere else and get them taken off and redone. It might end up costing you but at least you will be happy. These are mine which were done on the 20th of December. I have tips with shellac over the top

Badhair yours look much thinner than mine, I can tell from your thumb.

She tried to tell me that because I had tips, I need thicker gel.

Yours look great, even after 10 days. I don't suppose there's any chance your technician is in my neck of the woods??

Damn everyone's nails look infinitely better than mine.

There's no chance of getting an appointment tomorrow is there?

brillo I asked for a neutral pink/beige but it's too bubble gum, like you say Sad

Yes, it's the beds, my Dad had nails with wide beds too but then he was a builder, luckily I took after my Mother in the hands department, hers were long and elegant with piano players fingers.
Can you see a nail tech in the morning, somewhere should be open.
