Extreme self care anyone?

Is anyone familiar with the Cheryl Richardson book 'The Art of Extreme Self Care'?

It's not only about physical self-care but also mental and emotional.

I've been aware of it for years and I suppose I've adapted bits of it to suit my life but I think it's time to ramp things up in 2017.

The book is 99p on Kindle at the moment if you're interested in taking a look.

Anyone want to join me to work through it (at least the bits we find useful?)

It's on the reading list I got from the Pain Clinic. I was a bit skeptical but it might entice me to read it in a group.

Great! Wasn't sure if anyone would be interested.

In the past I've done bits of her Extreme Self Care checklists but now I'm more interested in the emotional/mental areas. Not that I'm averse to looking after myself physically mind you, have worked on it quite a bit this year (still a long way to go). But the other areas, such as not taking on more than I can handle, are something that I really need to focus on now.

Thanks, OP. I've just bought it too, and will have a look and probably join you. I'd quite like something my DH can do too, though, as he is desperately in need of "extreme self-care" but hasn't quite got it yet. I suppose it's already failing the mission if I'm worrying about him doing it too though, isn't it? Grin

What's the general gist of the book.
I've seriously neglected my mh this year due to giving to much of it away to help family members in crisis.
It's caught up with me now and I need to get back to me.

Well, let's start by reading the intro and first chapter, and we can then see what we (individually or collectively) want to try to apply to our lives for January.

Pheebs I'm not rich (nor married, though I'm partnered so same thing I guess) but if you can spare a quid - and I'm not being sarcastic, I'm well aware that not everyone can, or wants to - then why not see what we can figure out is applicable to our own lives?

For example in the past with the author's extreme self care lists I knew that getting regular facials was absolutely not a financial option for me, but getting around to going to the dentist was exactly the kind of nudge I needed to look after myself.

Again I'm mentioning physical stuff here because that's what I've focused on in the past, but there's plenty of other stuff involved in self care which is what I'm wanting to look at now. For example, from the book: "Other needs might involve [...] identifying and seeking pleasurable activities and experiences [or] developing a creative outlet [etc etc].

Oh, I'm interested - what other kinds of things does the book cover?
