If you had £200 to buy a new winter coat where would you be looking?

Just that really, I have unexpectedly got paid some extra money and have decided to spend it on a new winter coat as mine is looking shabby. I would like something warm but smart. I have a good waterproof parka type, this would be replacing the one I wear if going out in the evening or to work when it's not pouring it down. Would love to either hear suggestions or just to see pictures of what you would get for yourself

Cos!

I like this Cos one but think once I put a scarf on I will just look round.

I think I have two problems:

  1. I really like the Cocoon styles but whenever I see someone wearing one and looking great, I notice it is undone. And I am a wimp who feels the cold.
  2. £200 doesn't seem to go very far. I thought it would be plenty as the last one was about £100 in the sale from Brora but most seem to be much more.

Jaeger. Some gorgeous specimens on the outlet site. I got one on eBay earlier in the year and I'm delighted with it - it's warm (I really feel the cold) and dressy enough to make me feel good no matter what's under it.

Tk maxx for down and parka

Laura Ashley Blush of debenhams for wool (only I tend to buy from charity shops and eBay but search for those two brands)

Ive bought my last two coats from Reiss. Might be a little more than £200 but worth it for the extra quality.

Also try Hobbs sale?

Jigsaw sale is great if you can wait.

Are you near an outlet centre? I got mine from Hobbs at the York one but also looked at some in Reiss there. Good savings!

Got a beauty in Hobbs this year. A long, fitted, military style in khaki. Looks a tiny bit like I am off to invade Stalingrad after work, but really warm and flattering fit.

Fantastic suggestions, thank you all! Going to look at those now.

Does anyone know of any outlets near Edinburgh?

Laura Ashley has 30% too so I might have to try and go to a shop, this oneis slightly dull but could be good

I really like this jaeger one too, looks hugely impractical in colour which I rather love in a coat

I'd love a lovely Paddington-style duffle coat, toggles and all. Massively impractical and not at all waterproof, but sooooo snuggly. Smile

Surprisingly, H&M. They do a good line in wool/wool cashmere mix smart coats every year which last extremely well (I have one I've owned since university) and they're between £80-150.

I'd wait for the sales and get something nice from selfridges or Net-a-porter

I literally bought two new coats** today after donating loads of winter clothes to a charity raising funds and clothes for the winter/Christmas season for homeless people.

So because of my good deed I bought a blush pink coat from Reiss and a black coat from Ted Baker. Both hovering around £200-250 mark.

To the people suggesting Jaeger, can you tell me what the sizing is like please? Just seen a coat I like on there.
From a Google search, it seems that clothes come up larger than regular shops. Is that right?

Yes, definitely on the large sidetached.
