Would you spend £48 on a hair product?

I have slightly dry hair due to the purple shampoo I use on my grey. I need really intense conditioners otherwise I get the mad frizz.

This morning I grabbed a sample of a hair mask I'd got ages ago from Birchbox and used it in the shower. Afterwards I was amazed by how soft and silky and smooth my hair was. Googled the product and it's £48 . Roughly 10 times what I usually spend on a hair product.

I just can't bring myself to buy it. Even though I technically could afford it, I just can't.

I use Philip Kingsley Elastisizer every now and again and it's fab stuff but pricey.

What was it? I get birchbox and have been far from impressed. I usually get dry shampoo every month and I never use the stuff.

Would you spend £48 on a face cream? E.g. Clarins, Lancôme etc would be roughly that price... if it's an intensive that would last a while and you'd use weekly, if you break it down into cost per use it might not seem as expensive. But it's all relative- if you can afford it and feel you need it, then why not?

I've tried a lot of oils. Unfortunately they mostly tend to be yellow in colour and have a dulling effect on my colour. If they made the Moroccan Oil in clear I'd be sorted!

Have tried the Elasticizer in the past and it didn't do much for my hair. Also tried a Joico masque I'd had recommended on here and didn't like it.

Maud I actually cancelled my Birchbox subscription last year after feeling the same as you. There was too much repetition in the products. And too many nail polishes in colours I would never wear.

Yes my dds have a great collection of polish and lip crayons at the moment thanks to it. I haven't got round to cancelling it, it's my new years resolution.

I wouldn't hesitate if it works, so few of these miracle products actually do anything but it sounds like you've found a winner. Go for it!

Try this. This recipe is much loved by many people with extremely long hair, very good for conditioning & reducing frizz.

4 parts conditioner (must be free of silicones & proteins - silicone would cause curdling, proteins would cause breakage). I use Garnier Ultimate Blends, the one in the white & pale pink bottle.
1 part aloe vera gel - Holland & Barratt sell a 99% pure gel
1 part honey

Apply all over the hair, cover with a plastic shower cap (to keep in the moisture). It's a pain to wash out if it dries on. Leave on for 10 mins - a couple of hours. Then shampoo as normal. Or use as a CO-wash if that's your thing. Some people warm it gently in a microwave before applying but I don't bother (& I no longer own a microwave).

Before you part with the cash, try Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. It does wonders for me after using purple shampoo.

Was it the agave hair oil? If it makes your hair better buy it. I have cut back on other items in order to buy something I know works . In the long run it works out cheaper - I have a box full of cheap alternatives that aren't as good - add them up and they are less than the full price item I was trying to dupe

I don't use oil either but extraordinary is like a no oil oil!
£48 is a hell of a lot for someone with slightly dry hair prone to frizz. Even a creme of some sort. Main thing I find is don't use something to wash out and expect it to do the smoothing of frizz. In this way, much £££££ can be saved or put towards other stuff.

There are so many oils.
The L'Oreal one is heavily scented, far too scented for me.

There is a Percy&Reed on in M&S, it's nice. Bumble&Bumble if you what to slightly more expensive.

If it works, get it. You'll save £48 in a year easily by not buying the stuff that doesn't work. It's less than £1 a week, to have lovely, lovely hair.

If nothing else has the same result for you, and you can afford it, I would go for it! I have started a policy of only buying stuff I will properly use, a quallity over quantity system, instead of ending up with multiple versions of things on a whim, such as lipsticks, nail varnishes, yet another serum etc.

You could easily spend that amount trying bottle after bottle of cheaper products that don't work for you. Buy the one you know works but shop around and look for a discount code.

Mythic oil L'Oreal is what you need.

Yes, if it made me feel good and I could afford it. My hair feeling and looking good makes me feel good. Worth every penny.

If your purple shampoo is drying out your hair, then change it. The only toning shampoo I've found that doesn't dry out hair is Lee Stafford blonde purple shampoo (can be used on grey or white hair). Gives amazing shine and eliminates brassiness.

A couple of cheaper alternatives if you want a reconstructing mask; Aussie 3 minute miracle reconstructor mask or Bleach London Reincarnation mask, £6. Both moisturise and add protein to dry damaged hair. Look at the main ingredients in the hair treatment you like and you should find those ingredients in other high street brands.

Why not put the absurdly overpriced conditioner on your Christmas list if you really want it? Look at it as a special treat.

Another treatment I swear by is Mark Hill MiracOILous 2 minute mask, Boots. Turns my dry hair into silk. I thought that was extravagant at £7!

Before you fork out £48, have you tried using coconut oil as an overnight treatment? If you try it and it doesn't work for you , put it back in the kitchen.
