Wearing red to a wedding

janey8800 · 27/11/2016 00:30

I've got a friends winter wedding in a few weeks, and have found a lovely red dress which I love, but I can't shake the feeling I've read somewhere that you shouldn't wear red to a wedding. My friends and family seem to think it's fine, but I don't want to look out of place. What's everyone's opinion?

I'd post a pic of me in the dress but I can't see how to, but here's a link to the dress - www.chichiclothing.com/products/Chi-Chi-Halle-Dress.html

I've heard of white but not red? I think it's
a great colour to a winter weddinf, I wouldn't worry about it. Lovely outfit as well Smile

Red is fine but are you sure about that much bare skin for a wedding?

Just the backless thing. A stole or something in church would sort it and then would be lovely

Red is fine - it's green you shouldn't wear (or white!)

The dress is lovely. I'm not aware of red being taboo at a wedding, but for a laugh you should wear it with a hat with a veil and smoke a sobranie in an onyx holder, and when you're asked to speak now or forever hold your peace, say, "he's mine, and I'm never letting him out of my clutches" in an Alexis Carrington voice.

Fab, thanks everyone!!

50BalesOfHay I've got a wrap to wear over it for the church, as I know it'll be absolutely freezing in there.

I wore red and got a funny comment from my mum about it, I think it's because most people wear pastel colours and red is quite eye catching and possibly connotations of a scarlet woman.

I ignored it, bloody stupid... I think as long as you're not funereal or wearing an actual bridal dress anything goes really.

Don't wear a white dress and don't come on to the groom.

Those are the only rules I'm aware of!

Dress is gorgeous! I've only ever heard of not wearing white/cream to a wedding and have worn red at weddings before.

The only thing I can think of is not wearing red if the BMs are? However not everyone shows their wedding colours on invites and some people don't share so can't be avoided!

It's gorgeous you'll look gorgeous but if you are going to attract more attention than the bride ............

I've worn red to weddings. Never heard it to be an issue. I have heard the old saying 'red shoes, no knickers' - maybe that's what you're thinking of? (although obviously still not true!).

And I have seen a lot more flesh on show than that!

I think it's because you will always stand out more in the photos so it's seen as a way of trying to outshine the bride. However I've worn red to a wedding and know other have too and have never had any negative comments. Wear the dress it's gorgeous.

I think there will be more jewel colours than pastels at a December wedding

I would take more than a wrap!! What about photos outside afterwards? You will freeze. Definitely take a light coloured fur jacket! Vital!!! Or black - just don't expect the church to be warm either. The dress is an evening dress really. Does that matter? Is it that sort of wedding? Or is chic expected?

Ive been to the church before, you're right, it's absolutely freezing in there bojorojo. I didn't explain it very well, it's a black fur lined cape/wrap thing, it should keep me warm enough. I hadn't really thought about it being an evening dress Confused. It's the kind of style dress I would normally wear to a wedding, woops.

It is lovely OP. And certainly not too bare! I don't think a little bare back is shocking these days Grin
