To wear for birthday dinner. I think it's nicer irl but I'm not 100% sure for so e reason. It fits perfectly and the shape is really flattering g. I think it's the pattern I'm not sure on.

I love it. I think the pattern is unusual but it's better than the ubiquitous star print at this time of year.

It has a lovely, unique pattern smile , I think you should get it smile

LadyOfTheCanyon Sat 19-Nov-16 10:51:29

I think it's a lovely dress and the pattern is unusual.
However when I see these threads I sort of want to be the voice of reason which is if you're unsure and asking MN perhaps you shouldn't buy it if it's always going to make you feel a bit uneasy when you put it on. wish I listened to my own advice
Hopefully our reassurance will make that feeling go away!

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 19-Nov-16 12:38:24

lady you have a point! But I've recently lost a lot of weight so I think I'm struggling to think I look OK in more daring, or what I think of as more daring anyway! It's quite fitted and short and I love it, but Im so used to frumpy tents I feel a bit weird in it!

UnGoogleable Sat 19-Nov-16 12:48:24

If you don't mind me asking - how old are you, and what dress size are you?

I think it's for someone aged 50+ so if that's you, great. If you're younger, you could go for more daring

BUT if you're not used to fitted short dresses, this is a great first step. You'll probably find you look fab in it and it will give you the confidence to buy more smile

GrumpyOldBag Sat 19-Nov-16 12:49:47

it's lovely

LadyOfTheCanyon Sat 19-Nov-16 12:52:18

mrsmaud congratulations on the weight loss! I'm getting there myself and I know exactly what you mean about feeling odd. But I bet that feeling goes away pretty quickly. I think it's a lovely dress and I bet you'll look fabulous in it. The discrepancy in our heads between the old and new you can take a while to shake off. Go for it!

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 19-Nov-16 14:18:32

ungoogle really?! I thought it looked quite "young"!

I'm 37! Size 12, hour glass shape. I was a barrel shaped size 20 😵

Hate my arms so liked the sleeves...

Lady thanks! I hope so. I feel like I have a flashing light on my head a siren saying "hark at Maud, thinking she can carry off a little dress!"

JamieVardysParty Sat 19-Nov-16 14:28:13

Also a 12 and hourglass here. Please buy this.

I've been recommending it left, right and centre here because it is so flattering to someone of our shape. Doesn't cling, but drapes, flatters and skims in the right places. Playsuit makes it a little more unusual. Really versatile - I've worn it to bars, a wedding, christening, birthday dinners and will probably wear it for Christmas do's too.

UnGoogleable Sat 19-Nov-16 14:41:38

I'm similar age & shape to you OP.

I think it's one of those dresses that might look better on you than in the pictures. I totally get why you're tentative about taking those first steps into a figure hugging dress though.

I'm currently obsessed with this website Pretty Kitty after my own thread here asking for help. Some gorgeous flattering styles there for hourglass shapes.

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 19-Nov-16 14:54:53

Really Jamie? - the minimal short sleeve playsuit? What do you wear it with? Tights?? My legs are pretty good due to heaps of exercise this year but id want to be able to wear opaques or maybe opaque sparkling tights. It's not something I would ever even usually look at. But I'm tempted based on what you say!

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 19-Nov-16 14:58:02

ungoogle thanks! There are some love Bardot dresses on that site. I might post a photo of me in the dress

Cakescakescakes Sat 19-Nov-16 14:58:50

I love the dress. I'm mid 30's and I'd definitely wear it. It's gorgeous.

Cakescakescakes Sat 19-Nov-16 14:59:58

I much prefer it to the playsuit.

JamieVardysParty Sat 19-Nov-16 15:32:17

I've worn it with tights and bare legs, heels, brogues, biker boots etc. I find it really versatile, but then I do prefer simple, structured, "clean" lines. I'm quite into the concept of a capsule wardrobe and find patterns don't really work in that.

I think it's one of those things that actually looks better on a more curvy shape than the athletic model.

I like the shape of the dress but the pattern is something more that my Mum would wear.

Bluntness100 Sat 19-Nov-16 15:36:58

Yes, sorry, I think it's a bit frumpy, only the length saves it from being totally frumpy. I think if you're down to a twelve uou could maybe do a little better than that dress for the price. I think the pattern is what's doing it to me also, and it seems quite shapeless.

But major congrats. A twenty to a twelve is amazing...well done..

BagelGoesWalking Sat 19-Nov-16 18:13:29

I think it's a great dress! I like the pattern and definitely like the fact that it has sleeves.

Doesn't look "old" at all to me because of the shorter length. I think you'd look great in it! Go for it grin

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 19-Nov-16 18:28:11

Wow. Such a split on it, clearly a Marmite dress!

Mrsmaudwatts Fri 25-Nov-16 21:33:32

So, I returned it. I just wasn't sure. I gave replaced it with this beauty. Blown the budget, and then some but I LOVE it! I've lost almost 6 stone this year, and am working out 6x per week so I think I kind of deserve a fab dress. DH who wouldn't notice if I dressed up as Alice Cooper saw me trying it on and shouted "wow!!! Keep that one!!"grin

The Reis one is beautiful. So glam looking.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow Sat 26-Nov-16 17:17:30

Jamie I'm glad you appeared on this thread - you recommended that playsuit on my thread a few weeks ago and it arrived today grin

I bought a 14 and it fits well, the fabric is a lot heavier than it looks and you're right, it looks great on a more curvy figure. I'm 5 ft 5 and the front is just about knee length on me.

I love it, but I'm not sure I can do it up on my own so I need to have a practice!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow Sat 26-Nov-16 17:18:34

That Reiss dress is lovely!

barkinginessex Sat 26-Nov-16 18:02:50

Much prefer the Reiss dress! It's really lovely smile

Mrsmaudwatts Sat 26-Nov-16 18:10:36

Jamie I also bought the basis playsuit blush. I love it! So thanks for the recommendation. I think it's got a bit if a cos vibe to it.
