Help me style this velvet pinafore play suit

In an effort to expand my 'safe' repertoire of skinny jeans and 'going out top' I've bought this black velvet pinafore play suit, which I love. I'm hoping to wear it to a number of outings between now & Christmas, lunches, Xmas night out, maybe Xmas day, but I don't know how to style it?
Mainly, what top to wear underneath it? It looks ok with a plain white tee, but too casual for what I want to wear it for.

Also, is it ok to wear with black opaques? Not sure I'm brave enough to get legs out yet!

Thanks!! Smile

I'd go for a striped long sleeved top, mustard yellow cardigan, tights, chunky socks & ankle boots.

ginforeach thanks, I actually have all of those items as well.

Would that be dressy enough though, for a night out?

Maybe a cream or jewel coloured roll neck? A nice fine fitted one. And tights and boots probably I think.

White round neck blouse
Opaque tights
Flat black ankle boots

I have something similar and have worn it "out" but also in more casual situations. Out I'd wear a scoop neck skinny top with chunky, blingy jeweley and heeled ankle boots. Casual with a thin jumper and flats.

Deffo wear opaques with it this time of year. (Have worn mine once with legs in the late spring this year.)

I love that - could you wear it with a fine-knit sparkly jumper underneath for going out? (plus opaques and boots!) I have a couple of pinafore dresses and wear them with blouses underneath which works well.

It's a very, very difficult style to wear.

Starting point - what size are your boobs?

Have you worn it anywhere yet? How did the bib sit over the bombs when you were actually in it and in motion?

If they jiggle against each other, you may want to choose something that does not highlight that, so matte black.

lizardperson It is quite a daring style for me definitely, but I've tried it on and it looks ok (I think! Hope!). My boobs are quite jiggly! But I think it's saved by the fact that it's quite fitted right up to the ribs, and the 'bib' part isn't too baggy. It's totally off piste compared to what I'd normally wear, but I've managed to lose 2st this year so am giving something different a try 😬 Hopefully won't backfire completely!!

missmoz that's really helpful and Thanks to everyone for the replies. I think lace, tight fitting white or cream lace/textured underneath for the meal on Sat, opaques and heels is the way to go? Been looking at bodysuits just have to try and find one that can be delivered by Sat and isn't 'porn star', which is what mostly comes up when you google 'lace body suit' 🙄
