fox fur trim cruelty??

SuperFlyHigh · 10/11/2016 12:10

want to ask a question - sounds a bit stupid but...

friend owns a company making jackets with fur trims - one I want has fox fur trim... I'm an animal lover and so is my mum...

I sound so stupid asking this.... but am I hiding my head in the sand by denying the cruelty?

It is not like I have any other animal products apart from leather

thanks

If she owns the company, can't she make you one with synthetic fur instead?

I'm not against fur per se but the vast majority of the cheap stuff used for trims comes from China where they have the most unbelievable animal cruelty. Go and watch the YouTube videos of the animals being skinned alive and then decide if you can have the fur trim hood...

no. she does some synthetic fur but not all.

I feel really bad for messing her around. I want one... but don't want the animal cruelty.

You can't claim to love animals whilst wearing one. There is very good quality faux fur and leather out there, there's really no reason to be contributing (and you are contributing) to animal cruelty

just asked if she would do a fake fur trim

My friend had a vintage coat which was handed down by her grandmother. She wasn't comfortable wearing it but is a designer so sliced it up and made several fur collars.

She gave one to me and I loved it and wore it.... Until it rained. Then it stunk like wet dog. I haven't worn it again!

she does it without fur collar but of course that looks better damn

If she is making these to order, can't you source your own fake fox fur and give it to her to include on the collar?

Or ook at Helen Moore's collections to see how amazing fake fur can be... I don't know if they sell things that can be used as a trim, but they sell collars which could possibly be added onto the coat by you or your friend?

Too much hassle this time of year to be honest I don't really want to be sourcing my own!

She does do fake fur linings on some but not trim prob because cheaper to use real fur.

I dont think its cheaper to use fox fur than faux fur Confused

You can't have it then - thats what she makes . Tbh most fur is a by product (actually not fox - thats bred for fur) rabbit fur is just as much a by product as leather.

I don't see how fur can be cruelty free really. Especially from China or Russia.

At least you have standards.

Mehginstant rabbit fur if they're bred it's different. if I knew they were killed for food and then used for fur (same animal) I'd be more inclined to buy. But I still don't approve

Well don't take the jacket then!

I think skinned alive & left to die a few hours later is the preferred choice for fur, the meat won't be affected either way but the pelt is valuable & they really don't have any empathy for these animals.

Animals in Asia is an excellent charity if anyone reading this wants to try and change things. It's baby steps I think.

I wouldn't buy it. As fluffy said, these animals die a horrific death, do you really want that? Faux fur looks great and you can take the high ground knowing you made the right choice and saved an animal from suffering just for a collar on a coat.

I watched a video once on what happens to animals bread for fur. I eat meat but this was on another level- they're killed by inserting electrolodes in the mouth and anus so no fur is wasted, they're basically burned to death on the inside. It's really bad- there's no excuse for it. Go with faux fur or buy another jacket.

It's horrific. Bred in tiny cages and skinned alive. I'm afraid it's horribly cruel.

Please don't buy real fur. And personally I'd find it difficult being friends with someone who dealt in it.

These animals suffer their entire lives and die horrendous deaths just so people can have a fur trim on their jackets. Just think about that.

You would rather support an industry that skins animals alive, because you can't be arsed to spend a few minutes Googling suppliers of fake fur? Or even click on a link posted on the thread? Confused

It would have taken you less time to do that than to start this thread. Talk about priorities

You don't sound like you're particularly against animal cruelty. If you were, the only acceptable response to an offer of a real fur jacket is "no thanks".

The majority of fox fur is imported and the cruelty is significant. Rabbit fur - is also cruel - they aren't bred for meat - it's a different type of rabbit - they're bred for fur - angora is awful.

The fact that imported fox fur is cheaper than faux fur tell you all you need to know about the deprived environments and cruel treatment those animals experience. How does your friend justify it?

THIS.

And this!

If she won't/can't do it in faux fur then don't get one. Or stop calling yourself an animal lover.

Why all the insults?!

I don't have time right now to research fake fur collars and even then if I did do this I doubt the woman selling the jackets would let me attach a fake to it. Her jackets are £500 mark (mine would be £400) so not cheap.

And to be honest until googling yesterday I had no idea where or how fur comes from.
Apart from some is from China etc.

But I've cancelled the order.
