Does anyone have any experience of severe acne scars? What's the best treatment to get rid of them? I've saved up some £ so would be willing to go privately to get rid of the scars.

Before you try laser, how bad are the scars and what else have you tried?

Hi OP, have you tried Bio Oil?

Could you post a photo of the scars? A lot of the time they look much worse in your head than they do to everyone else iykwim?

I have some acne scarring and have tried Fraxel. I've had 4 sessions. Painful enough, but not unbearable.

How much improvement? Probably 40%? Not bad. I imagine if I had 10 sessions I'd get 60-70% improvement. There is no cure-all for scarring. Hence the reason acne needs to be treated seriously. It's not just a skin issue. Severe acne can be a lifelong psychological issue because of its scarring consequences. People go to the ends of the earth to treat a burn scar but acne is often looked upon as a cosmetic issue, or 'normal', something to be endured, without consideration for the potential serious lifelong scarring. <gets off soapbox>
Results are individual tho - my scars aren't v deep, results probably also depend on size depth etc.

For deep scars I have seen good results with Fraxel and some filler. Unfortunately the filler has to be re-done regularly enough.

Would you consider paying a good cosmetic derm for his/her opinion? I would be reluctant to go to a laser clinic as such, they need you to have laser treatment to make money and therefore are usually very biased in favour of laser. The other thing is you need to be treated and 'cured' (as much as is possible) of your acne. No point flinging decent money at it if you're just going to get more spots and scars.

Have you tried microdermabrasion already? If not, give it a go first, find someone that will do it relatively aggressively.

I found it made a massive difference.

Thanks everyone!

I have been on roaccutane a couple of years ago, and that pretty much cleared up the acne, but the scars still remain. I haven't tried dermobrisation or any other treatment.

I've attached a pic I found online on google, which is similar to mine. But I have some darker brown scars too as well as that.

I would be willing to see a good cosmetic dermatologist. Is there anyone you can recommend John?
