Does anyone wear a thin down jacket under their coat?

I've seen uniqlo do thin down jackets that are supposedly to wear under you coat I assume to keep you warmer. I like the idea because I prefer to wear a wool coat rather than a big down one but when it gets cold they're just not as warm. However I wonder if it's just all a bit bulky and uncomfortable. I don't want to buy one if it'll end up being a waste on money. No Uniqlo shops in the North so would have to orde/pay postage etc.

I regularly wear the uniqlo ultra light down jackets under wool coats and even a pleather jacket. I think they're great as an extra layer, if you get too hot they go in a little bag which is about the same size as a can of coke.

Yes, I wear a uniqlo ULD under a uniqlo wool coat atm. Not bulky and easy to remove a layer when I get hot.

gladyoucame interesting about wearing one under leather jackets, I've been wondering about that

Gap do a similar light down one. I was blood boiling in it yesterday though. But the do squash down to nothing.

Yes, but get a gilet rather than a jacket. Less bulky on the arms and then they fold down into nothing so you can pop in a reasonable sized handbag

I've got an uniqlo one for this very reason. I bought the short parka because I'd wanted the hood to be pulled out and showing over the collar top of my wool coat.

I haven't got round to wearing both yet as it's too warm.

Sounds like it works well, I wonder if Uniqlo ever discount them.

Yes, Uniqlo frequently has discounts :)

This also works with a tog 24 down gilet (which is a truly quality little jacket, folds down into its own pocket so no losing the bag) and a much cheaper little down gilet from tk maxx. I thought the tog24 gilet better quality than the uniqlo one.

BUT a 300 warmth tog24 fleece (ideally without a hood but it's a slightly older design) that works similarly under coats and is thinner and warmer

I read that Romilly Weeks and many of the other female news correspondents do this for cold outside broadcasts; thin uniqlo layer under a smart wool coat.

You might be surprised at just how warm the uniqlo is, however. The thinness and lightness are really deceptive and you may find the two layers too warm unless it's really cold and / or you're outside for a long time.

She does, as do French women apparently.

I have one from gap and it's a life saver. Wool coats just aren't warm enough for me and I'm out and about for work and have to look smart.

Noticed that H&M were doing something similar too. Do find you have to make sure it doesn't have much of a collar or it can interfere with the coat collar!
