What are The Rules for cold-shoulder cardigans?

I impulsively ordered a cold-shoulder cardigan. What are The Rules for wearing this type of garment? I am guessing you are not supposed to wear normal T-shirts under it as it looks weird but then I don't have that many sleeveless tops. When I did wear a sleeveless top under it, I found that my shoulders were a bit, erm, cold. I love the colour and fabric but I'm guessing I should just return it. My DH and DC seem bemused by the garment and I fear I may have strayed into a fashion territory I am just not equipped to deal with... Grin

I think cold shoulder can look nice, pic for an example. But I'm not sure about a cardigan though, they all seem to be pictures over vest tops so bare shoulders. If it's cold enough for a cardy then I think these don't work and look a bit odd

What are The Rules for cold-shoulder cardigans?

Er...
Rule 1. NEVER buy one.
Rule 2. NEVER wear one.
Rule 3. Given one, throw it away.

You are most welcome.

I have to say that i have yet to see anyone wearing this fashion well. I think its bad enough having a top, dress or jumper. Personally, I would return it.

I was going to say the only rule is don't bother, but pp's got there firstGrin

They sound even worse than sleeveless cardigans and gilets. Complete nonsense clothing that you can never be warm enough in.

I liked the cold shoulder tops, during the summer, but the cardigan, that really doesn't keep you cosy, especially coming into winter, can't see the point. They do look lovely though, it's a shame.

Cardigans are supposed to keep you warm. If you cut out the shoulders, they will stay cold (hence the name). By way of conclusion: cold shoulder cardigans are a contradiction in terms and should never be bought or sold.

This look is about as stylish as the open toe boots.

In a month's time, it'll have passed and you'll be ebaying / charity bagging it.

I actually quite like this sort of thing, but suggest lace or open work on the shoulder instead as a bit more subtle, and less cold, especially in autumn.

I agree with halfapint

I've never seen one look genuinely good on anyone yet. At best they just look not shit.

But mostly they look shit.

sorry. Grin

LOL yes totally agree with bummy and was just about to say they belong in the same pantheon of awful pointlessness as open toed boots.

I quite like some cold shouldered stuff. I have two dresses and a top.

I have the whistles cold shoulder sparkle knit and it's gorgeous 😜 So there!
However I can't imagine how a cold shoulder cardigan would hang?

My cold-shouldered cardigan has already been returned! I can only apologise and say I must have taken leave of my senses. Grin
