If you are an Autumn (HoC etc), leggings, jeans, black...

Do you wear black at all?
I was diagnosed nearly two years ago and haven't worn anything black since that day.
I've been thinking about my Autumn (time of the year) wardrobe and I really want to get out of blue jeans. I was thinking leggings and tights and jumper/dresses. But, I can't get my head around wearing coloured thick tights.
I found a pair of brown leggings in primark about a year ago, they were good colour wise but dreadful quality and brown just seems a bit of a weird colour to wear all the time.
So I'm thinking about going back to the dark side (black)...

I keep seeing people dressed head to toe in black and missing that look a bit :/
Thoughts/help?!?!?...

Thanks!

I am an Autumn and I do wear black. I wear black a fair bit on my bottom half and I do have a few but not many black tops and jackets. My rule when I wear these is that I can't wear head to toe black and that I need to wear another colour up at my face, either by wearing a necklace, scarf or coloured jacket/ top with the black.
I would really struggle to never wear black!

I very rarely wear black. I have tights in brown, grey and navy. Leggings in brown.

The thing I struggle with is winter coats. My DM gave me a nice one last year which was warm and comfortable, but it is black. But it is so much warmer and nicer than my others I wore it.

I don't even own any black shoes - though I do have an old pair of black long boots I wear occasionally.

I've a khaki winter coat.
No black shoes or boots, my winter long boots are brown.

Maybe I'll just hunt out some brown leggings and tights.

Where've you bought yours from?

I started off getting rid of black but I hated the whole coloured tights thing and I never let go of navy.....and I am slowly moving back to black. I was never convinced that it didn't suit me. I suit dark colours except charcoal, I don't suit half the colours on my Autumn palette, I don't care what the colour experts say.

I don't have any jeans. I wear cords or moleskin or flannel trousers, in brown, wine/burgundy, navy, or grey.
I have some khaki green trousers too.
I do have some black trousers for work, but black does make me look washed out.

I pretty much wear brown and green plus blue jeans all the time now, my husband says I look like a drab pond :/

Wine and burgundy aren't Autumn colours are they?

Karcheer do you like your colours? Not sure I'd want my DH comparing me to a drab pond unless that's a look he likes Wink

Surely black jeans would look fine with a khaki top?

Report
AnyTheWiser · 28/09/2016 13:58

Possibly not, just saying what I wear. That colour looks fine on me, soft autumn. Maybe you have to get the right shade?

AnyTheWiser · 28/09/2016 13:59

And meh to the drab pond! I look best in soft greens, even if it looks like pond weed!

Aren't teal and cherry red in the colours? They'd be less pondlike...

He hates green and brown as colours so I think he's sort of being funny :/

I don't mind my colours. I do miss black but I was one of these women that wore head to toe black, so the last two years have been a challenge for myself.
As I've nothing in black now I'm thinking it might be quite costly to go back... If I get black jeans I'll need black boots etc...

I think I'll get some leggings and just see how I feel.

Black always feels smarter than any colour in my mind...

I got a teal jumper early on and just never wore it as much as the same one I had in oatmeal so I've moved away from it.
My going out clothes tend to be red, red dresses have replaced black for going out. I always feel very "look at me" though when you go to a restaurant and everyone's in black and I'm in bright red!

I go to a client's office regularly, and everyone is head to toe in black with the occasional white shirt - I stand out a mile in my orange and red and mustard Grin.

I got rid of all black from my wardrobe a few years ago. I find that the autumn colours that look best on my top half look wrong paired with a black bottom half.

I only own a couple of pairs of trousers (grey and chocolate brown) and mostly wear dresses with either brown tights and boots/shoes or grey tights/shoes. I also wear navy/grey tights with burgundy shoes and burgundy or grey tights with navy shoes. If the dress has more than one colour or is patterned then the tights usually pick up one of the colours in the dress.

I've also swapped red for black for evening wear.

Just wanted to add that I get most of my tights from TK Maxx. They do really nice thick woollen Falke tights in a chocolate brown colour which I wear with brown biker boots.

I'm not sure where my brown leggings are from - will have to look. My tights are from Calzedonia. They do loads of really nice colours.

My DH likes me in brown. He often says "there are not many women who could get away with wearing all brown but you look fab"

What about a really dark indigo jean?

I look dire in black, so didn't have much to get rid of, but never wear it, even in piling/prints, because I think it often looks cheap if it's not paired with colours it goes with (white/jewel colours). However, neither do I do drab pond! Charcoal, taupe, warm grey, mole and navy are useful neutrals (I don't really wear brown). Some dark olive and khaki for casual. I wear mainly neutrals, usually add a splash of colour with a mustard scarf or bright red lipstick or a lime vest layered under other colours.

For leggings, I generally go dark grey as I think it pairs well with the autumn palette.

I wear dark green and burgundy skinnies/leggings. With brown boots. Brown trousers and leggings just look wrong on me. (Though can look great on other people - I just can't pull that look off).

Also wear black jeans - but have really moved away from black near my face - have a black quilted jacket I wear when really cold but put a scarf with it.

I don't think I look that bad in black but all in black doesn't suit me.

I'm a soft autumn and still wear black all the time even though it washes me out. I'd like to make the move to brown but where on earth do you get brown things from? If really like some brown jeans, maybe I could just buy white ones and dye them? The problem is I love a crisp white shirt or black dress and I really struggle to find alternatives. Seriously considering dying all my white shirts cream but I'm worried they might just end up looking dirty.

Lee do grey, brown and burgundy jeans.

They are also good for a flattering high waist fit if you need it (I do!).

Brown has disappeared over the last few years and been replaced with grey/navy.

Kettlewell blog is very good for suggesting colour combinations and how to style everyday things like jeans in your season. post here for instance.

I'm so confused whether to go for charcoal grey or just go black.

I couldn't wear green leggings I'd feel like an extra in Robin Hood :/
