I'm going to work in an office...

for the first time! I've always worked in customer facing roles in management so suited and booted and very dull. I'm moving to an office role and when I've asked for the dress code been told 'normal office wear'. This is a new company which only begins trading as I start so no chance to go in and nosy what people are wearing at the moment.

So, I'm 5'4 - somewhere between a 16 and 18, 42 next week 😱 would like comfy, smart and not too formal. Where do I start? At interview stage the directors were wearing chinos and shirts for the men, tunics/dresses and boots for the women. Any workwear must haves out there? 😊

7/8 trousers and soft shirts with loafers
Pencil skirts with opaque tights, ankle boots. Silk vest and soft/patterned or bold coloured cardi
Dress, whatever shape suits you (but nit King)

Sorry!

Dress, whichever shape suits you but not long! Soft blazer with some structure and either boots or flats.

Oasis, warehouse, Dorothy Perkins for the above if budget bigger, then gap, French connection or jigsaw

Good luck with the job!

I tend to go for a less stylish version of this kind of look or a semi-tailored dress for our office, which is a bit less casual than yours sounds but not 100% suits.

I wear dresses to work.

I love them. They are smart and neat and you don't have to worry about what goes with what, just slip them on and you're dressed. You can, of course accessorise if you have the inclination.

I wear dresses a lot outside of work so definitely hoping to find some suitable work dresses. I've got a couple of jersey Blazers which I think will fit the bill, and plenty of scarfs. For shoes I have a few pairs of smart flats and looking at some brogues to go with ankle grazer trousers maybe? I'm liking the midi a line skirts I'm seeing around at the moment but not sure what with on the top half.

sentia I love that look but I'm far too fat 🐷
