Red to a Wedding?

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 13:47

Can I wear this to a wedding or is it a faux pas? The wedding is at a very high end mansion/no church element. I'm there day and evening. TYIA!

Are you asking about the colour or the style?

Nothing wrong with red, white and black (separately) are the only ones to be a little careful with.

I feel absolutely ancient though because all I can think when looking at the dress is that it is not very modest and therefore a bit inappropriate in style for a wedding.

It's a bit "look at me" for a wedding I reckon. Personally I think it's lovely but based on the number of hysterical brides on here complaining about guests' clothing I think it's probably not worth the risk!

Nothing wrong with wearing red but, unless its black tie, the dress linked is overkill.

Thank you! ....this actually covered all the body parts I hate without looking like I was wearing a burka, so back to square one!

Couldn't wear same dress in navy then?!

If I could get away with a dress 'that fitted' I'd wear it, or the navy.Smile

Thank you Annie!

Here's the Navy - colour less 'look at me' but worried the style is still off, but I have crap legs and awful upper arms, so I'm struggling to find much unless i wear a suit

I would personally Wear it.
I don't think it's overkill in either red or navy.
If you feel comfortable in it then wear it.

I think you could wear it in navy. I dont see a problem with red for weddings but not that style.

I think it's a bit 'look at my boobs, I'm on the pull'!
I don't dislike it but I wouldn't wear it to a wedding.

I'd definitely wear it to a black tie event - but not to a wedding.

bombayflambe · 12/09/2016 16:25

Is it an evening wedding?
If it's daytime I think you'll feel a bit overdressed.

If you wear it in red you will be put at the back of all the photographs, so no one can see your outfit. It attracts the eye to strongly in photos and removes the bridal couple as the focus.

I may be an old gimmer but i don’t think that is an appropriate dress for a wedding. Not unless it is a black tie do. I certainly don’t think it is right for a traditional church type wedding.

That style is not suitable for a wedding, sorry,

Exactly what Chewbacca said in first reply.

No problem wearing red, however, the style of that dress isn't really appropriate for a wedding ('traditional wedding' before people jump on and say it would be fine at their's)

Ok thank you all for your feedback! Taken on board. The dress looks so nice on, but I will definitely not wear the red one.....I'm wondering if all those saying the style is wrong, would think it possible to wear in navy with a cream or floral shawl & cream shoes for the day - would that be more weddingy? I don't have big boobs or a big cleavage, so its not showy in that sense for my figure. I would also pull it up higher, so its not breast showy at all on. The Navy is lighter than the picture shows too - so less black tie looking. I know I'm banging on - I just dont know if I have time to find anything else, and I've tried on about 50 dresses so far :(

Or can anyone else suggest something for me? Size 12 pear shaped (so nothing flouncy on the bottom end), tall - do not want to show my legs or my upper arms. Thank you!

Everything I see recommended for weddings is short, or midi, floral and sleeveless - everything I look hideous in! Or other suggestions which look like bridesmaid dresses.

It looks so dark in this picture! It's the light as its obviously blue in real life... Thoughts?!

I wouldn't for a daytime wedding.
Personally I think maxi dresses in the day look ridiculous unless a very casual beach style.
Did make me laugh that it's 95% polyester and hand wash only!

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 20:31

Thanks otto! The fabrics awesome actually really thick.

So if you hate your legs and arms, what would you wear?! I was thinking a short dress and tights, but it's warm! 😩

It looks absolutely lovely on you, no doubt about that. What sort of wedding is it? Church? Hotel? Fancy or not?

The picture of the dress in the link definitely looks more black tie than wedding guest but actually seeing it in navy it looks absolutely lovely on and definitely suitable for a wedding. Wear it. You look great.

It's a stunning dress and you look lovely in it. It is a little bit revealing tho... Guess it all depends on how well do you know the bride, what sort of wedding is it? Also if you are dancing a lot will it need hoisting up a lot...?

Thank you blue!!!
It's at a posh big old mansion house, no church. Bride and groom are not posh, just normal every day people. I rewrote that a million times as I don't know how to describe them with using jobs or class which isn't really relevant!! 😁
