Fur ( fake obvs ), long sleeves, velvet, gloves, off the shoulder, it's like the eighties are back, woo hoo! Am excited as some of these styles actually suit me, unlike a lot of stuff that's been around the last few years.

Elle magazine has a good summary of the trends. Will link. Wondered what other pp thought?

Grin I knew if I waited long enough then 80s fashion would be back . Yessss.

Trouble is, I don't have the body I had in the 80s and I;m too hot'n'hormonal (not in a good way ) for velvet.

I will embrace the 80s and get my hair done in a cropped back/side with longer top layers ( like The Human League girls)
I will wear texture. I love velvet, brocade and paisley.
I don't like fur ( not faux and certainly not real)

Skinny jeans (I can still wear at 50) and I saw some nice boots like the Tucker Boots that I might buy.

Fingerless gloves?
Lace?

Not too keen on the Tinsel or the David Bowie boots but I reckon once it filters down to the High street then navy coats and pinstripe and grey plaid will be wearable.

I have 3 velvet jackets and 2 velvet coats. I have kept them as they are beautiful and I love them even if they weren't especially fashionable. And now I can wear them again with pride! 😀💃

Woo hoo! My glory years are back! Sometimes it's good to be a hoarder, I won't even need to go shopping (but I will Wink)

God early 80s fashion was amazing. You'd go to clubs and your eyes would pop. The vintage scene was great too. I used to wear Edwardian underwear with jeans and a Chinese brocade dressing gown as a coat.

On the downside, I have to say, I'm getting bored with nostalgia. I don't subscribe to the 'if you wore it last time you can't wear it again' school of thought - not at all. But there's something about digging up what was essentially DIY street style and sticking on a 3 or 4 figure price tag that doesn't sit well with me. I'm starting to wonder if we're ever going to see real creativity in fashion ever again.

But I'm quite prepared to be told I'm overthinking it! Meanwhile hurray for velvet and brocade and pah! to 'less is more' and 'no patterns' Grin

Is someone telling me that velvet and brocade went away? I must have missed that memo.

I'm struggling with what to add into my basics mix this year, and have to agree with Floisme that I've seen almost all of it before and would like to be surprised, in a good way.

I think a lot of the most interesting trends started off as street style and were picked up by those designers who had a finger on the pulse. But these days all fashion seems to be 'top down'.

Fashion seemed to have been stuck in a rut the last few years. Glad to see a bit of glamour back. Think all fashion is derivative and maybe we've reached a point where there's nothing new so all they can do is recycle with a modern twist!

Already tried on some of my velvet stuff today. Most of it fits😀Looking forward to doing some window shopping to get a sense of what's out there... And hopefully finding some stuff I can actually buy!

Woohoo!💃

I don't think new ideas ever run out. But it takes people with real creative talent to visualise them - or to take something familiar and give it such a fresh spin that it seems new. I think the problem is that fashion has got too successful and too corporate for its own good. There's now so much money riding on a new collection that designers are discouraged from taking risks. And maybe the most creative people aren't choosing to work in fashion at the moment.

Anyway sorry if I'm spoiling this thread with my snarking cos I can't think of a fashion era I'd rather revisit than the 80s! (But the early 80s please - not that dreadful power dressing stuff.) I'll really enjoy figuring out how to make the clothes work for me 35 years on.
