Properly waterproof raincoat but not a winter coat!

Anyone up for a coat challenge?

We live on the coast and get proper rain and wind...DD1 starts school this week and we'll be walking whatever the weather. I've got a long, super warm puffa coat (although the hood is bloody annoying and blows off constantly) but I've always struggled to find the perfect raincoat for when it's warm but the rain is still torrential. Must have a hood (that tightens so doesn't blow off!), be properly waterproof and not 'showerproof' (pah, not our showers!), be as long as possible so I don't get wet legs and have some sort of waist shape so my huge norks don't make me look any more pregnant.

I have looked everywhere I can think of to no avail so I await the awesome power of S&B! Smile

Ilse Jacobsen

I have a longer version which goes to my knees and it keeps me dry standing on the station platform right next to the sea on cold, wet, windy winter's mornings (and lots of long walks too).

The only requirement of yours that it doesn't fulfill (I think) is that it doesn't have a hood that can be tightened.

I have one of these. Highly recommend it. I've got lots of complaints too which is nice.

I have had Seasalt and Joules and personally I prefer the Joules. The styles suit me better and they are more of a modern shape (and design). The Raina coat has kept me dry through many a downpour.

I wear my Ilse jacobsen coat in Winter. Although it's thin, I find I get quite warm in it when I'm walking. It might not be light enough for you. They have some lighter raincoats but they don't have the nice nipped in waist.

MamMamMam did you mean compliments, or do you enjoy making people complain?!

Very useful thread op, I need a coat like this too Grin

North Face Women's Suzanne Triclimate jacket

I always recommend this one - I've had it 3 years, re proofed it once - it looks like new - it's completely waterproof, really warm when the lining is in it, not too warm when the lining is out of it, it looks good. I wear it to walk to work almost everyday in winter. And it covers your bum.

Live by the seaside too and it can be a fearsome 20 minute walk.

I'm in rainy and windy Scadinavia and have a full wardrobe of weatherproof gear. I've used Danefae for the past five years. I prefer the longer ones and if the weather is really bad, I pair them with tall Ilse Jacobsen wellies or waterproof trousers. They have really good hoods. Helly Hansen hoods are also fab.

I also have two Aigle waterproof trench coats (long and short) - they are quite classic and formal so I wear them when I need something dressy.

I am from the Swedish coast and my dad runs a chain of retail outlets so I have tried them all. Imo nothing beats Didriksson

Get a proper coat. I like RAb as the women's are a nice shape not just smaller versions of men's.
