Blatantly fell in love with skirt someone posted last week. Ordered. But I'm just not sure. Was thinking black top but not this one. Feel like shape make hips and shoulders look huge.

Wedding all day thing, country house.

I think this looks gorgeous. Very small photo and not great light but I think this is lovely.

I think the skirt looks too straight and needs something to make it look more round/pouffy.

Have a look at the advice on here p

Gorgeous skirt looks amazing

MadrigalElectromotive Mon 05-Sep-16 21:52:43

I love it. Where's it from?

Redtartanshoes Mon 05-Sep-16 22:03:04

It's from Reiss. Might look at a wee underskirt thing... Although that would make hips look even bigger grin

RobberBride Mon 05-Sep-16 22:27:31

I loved that thread too grin. Skirt looks great, I don't think you necessarily need an underskirt. Is it sitting on the narrowest part of your waist? It looks a tiny bit low, you might be able to size down?

I agree the top is a bit too plain - I think you need something silky/satiny with a more unusual neckline. Lots of ideas here

Agree with a pp, that link is great. Definitely need good heels!

I love the skirt. I'd go with something less dark on top though, eg.

I fell in love with that skirt too. Definitely the kind of thing I will be looking for come work Christmas party time. That's no help to you though. I think the top perhaps needs to be a little more fitted.

I think the skirt looks good on you, but agree that a lighter top would look better.

Oblomov16 Tue 06-Sep-16 01:35:51

Great skirt. Yes to a lighter, sexier, more sassy top.

OlennasWimple Tue 06-Sep-16 01:39:56

What colour is it? I think a silk t shirt top would look lovely with it

FabFiveFreddie Tue 06-Sep-16 01:51:58

You have great height to pull off that skirt, lucky you!

Looking at the photo I couldn't quite figure out what wasn't working and I think you're right: the shoulders are wider than the (lovely, slender) hips.

So I agree that a fuller, pouffed out, bigger volume skirt would balance out the shoulders. You really have nothing to worry about re wide hips!

Also not a big fan of black top/white bottom, especially for a wedding. I'd wear something either skin tight and pale on top, or a sequined/ heavily embroidered draped top that stops at the waist.

Anyway, gorgeous skirt! Has a bit of Carrie from SITC to it.

Something like this might work?

Redtartanshoes Tue 06-Sep-16 06:42:01

Thank you so much!

I have a cream v neck silk vest and s shirt, otherwise I'll hit the shops and see what I can find. The skirt is a Kinda pale green I think, so I don't want to introduce too many colours!

Black top felt a bit matronly and dull agreed!

Am laughing re height though. I'm only 5"2

Redtartanshoes Tue 06-Sep-16 06:43:58

Sentia - that's lovely, think you are right... It needs to be a dressy top fit wedding as opposed to plain vest

GinAndOnIt Tue 06-Sep-16 07:29:28

Hips are definitely not wide! Agree top needs to be more fitting, I think it doesn't look quite right because the top poofs you out from the waist up. A tighter top would show waist off more I think. Lovely skirt though!

wowfudge Tue 06-Sep-16 07:45:30

A shell top with short sleeves would look great. What about this from Coast?

Redtartanshoes Tue 06-Sep-16 07:47:42

Love that too. Any chance of anything a bit cheaper? Skirt was £120... And I'm gonna need cream shoes and a bag now smile (((they don't need a wedding present do they?)))

Redtartanshoes Tue 06-Sep-16 07:50:25

I like this but can't find it on website

cathyandclare Tue 06-Sep-16 07:52:21

I think the black looks good, the waistline is black isn't it?
Maybe it looks heavy because it needs narrower straps and a scoopier neckline. I'm a similar height/size to you and this shape works for me when tucked in.

sentia Tue 06-Sep-16 08:54:36

Something like this?

sentia Tue 06-Sep-16 08:57:04

This one is a bit more expensive but so pretty!
