Returning Cosmetics to Mac

Have you tried returning to Mac?

How was the experience?

I am dreading it. I bought a lipstick two weeks ago which I have not used, I haven't even taken it out of the box. Now I realise I really don't need it.

I can't think of anywhere that takes back cosmetics you've just changed your mind about.

They couldn't sell them again. They're not going to take that hit for no reason.

We can actually do that here (I'm in Australia) as long as the it's in saleable condition.

My question is actually more of how did the staff take it? Were they nice? Because Mac is notorious for having snooty staff.

Other women look really lovely in florals, on me, I look like a giant tablecloth.

I really wouldn't have thought they would take cosmetics back

My daughter returned a mac foundation that they tested on her in store and recommended it was her colour - when she got home it was awful -
So she took it back and got a full refund - staff were lovely. Guess the reaction of the staff is so individual it's hard to advise you how the staff in your store will react!

It's different if they recommended it and it doesn't suit.

I just can't see how a lipstick will ever be resalable

Do they really look at it and if it's glossy and perfect they'll accept the return?

It's like underwear. Or pierced earrings. Over here they just wouldn't be able to take it back under those circumstances.

If you know they will accept it just suck it up, be a grown up and take it back Confused

The vast majority of UK women will not have returned cosmetics because you can't in this country.

I took a lipstick back to Mac for an exchange recently, they didn't mind swapping it for a different colour but don't know if they would have resold it or just used it as a tester afterwards...

Why are you dreading it, OP? Nothing bad will happen. The worst they can say is no, in which case you say thanks, go home and flog the lippy on eBay Grin

Which shade is it?

I'm in the UK and return cosmetics to boots a few weeks ago. No drama.

I've also returned unused cosmetics to Bobbi Brown and they were brilliant about it. Go for it, they can only say no!

Most mac stores will generally accept returns (even if its been tried) But it is dependent to individual store policy.

Was told this in my local branch after I mentioned to the MUA that I was buying 'skinfinish' in a different shade because although I loved the look & texture etc the tone on the 1st one I had bought was wrong.

Brilliant Customer Service & one of the reasons why I spend ££££ there !!!

Most higher end beauty counters do accept returns - it tends to be the self select ones that don't .

Nutellas

I generally struggle on returning stuff, actually. Even if it's well within the returns period (30 days).

It's the MAC Trolls Dance Off, Pants Off.

Wow, that is an amazing pink!

I understand re the returning stuff. Most sales peeps are really helpful and I'm sure you will have no problems at all. Go in with a big smile and ask if it's ok if you can bring this back. If they say no, no probs.

I take things back all the time to Boots. You can only test a lipstick on your hands so if I buy a lipstick and I get home and it doesn't suit me or the formula is drying etc I take it back. Never, ever had a problem.

Cheese, don't know if understood your post properly, are you saying that you've tried lipsticks on at home and then returned them used? Surely boots don't accept returned lipsticks that have been tried?

CoolToned · 03/09/2016 13:32

It's from the MAC Trolls Collection. The lipstick shade is Dance Off, Pants Off.

It's the shade of pink that suits me. I'm having second thoughts about returning it. It's just I have so many lipsticks that I don't even use (I don't wear makeup regularly)
