Okay, here goes. Shall I dye my hair? (With pic, arrghhh)

NC obviously

Before I start, I should say that the dying will be done at home with a box, and I know it would look a hundred times better done professionally, but I can't afford that so box dye will have to do.

I'm wondering whether to go a bit darker now summer is on the way out, and I'm wondering whether the blonde is making me look a bit....I don't know. I don't think I feel very classy. I am naturally blonde, but more a mousey/ashy colour. I was thinking of going more a caramel/warm light brown. A bit like Rachel Green in Friends maybe? I will tint eyebrows too.

What do you think, is blonde not working for me anymore? I think I prefer my face with a darker eyebrow and colour, but I always seem to end up going back to blonde, and I wonder if it's a sign I should just stay blonde. Brunettes always catch my eye, but that's more dark brown hair, which I can't carry off despite trying numerous times

Please help! and be nice

Ps, I am older than I look, and hate that I look young. I'd like a hair colour that makes me look a bit more grown up.

If you are doing it yourself I would suggest nothing too drastic, a warm caramel blonde sounds good to me. I'm not a blonde so can't advise specifics I'm afraid but hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along to help. Good luck Smile

Yes definitely not wanting anything drastic! Just a bit more of a warmer tone I suppose.

Thank you wobbly - that makes one of us Grin

This sort of colour maybe. I wonder if I'm too pale though.

I love your hair! I'd keep it, you may regret it. If you a mew going to dye it though, I'd go with an auburn colour I think

I think you hair looks lovely, as is! It suits your colouring.

As an aside, I watched series 10 of Friends, pretty much back to back on a recent long haul flight, and JA's hair in it is amazing. And the series is 10 years old now.

I like the different tones in your hair. Wouldn't dying flatten them out? There's really nothing wrong with looking younger than your age. You look like an adult, which IMO is fine. I also like your glasses. Wouldn't make any changes.

Sorry, that doesn't really help, does it? Grin

I've always loved her hair Dowager but I think the shine is what makes it so appealing. My hair is not the shiny type without a lot of encouragement :(

I was also going to ask about my glasses but decided better of it Grin

I do like the different colours in my hair now. I just feel like it's too light.

You gorgeous creature!

I don't think you should change the colour.

Maybe just put a toner in to jazz it up a bit and add shine.

My hair was like that, found it really washed me out/pissed me off. I got a few dif coloured tiny wee strips of low lights put in. A chocolate colour, a chestnutty colour and a darker beige blonde. Really gives my face a bit of colour and its nice and shiny.

Can I add, the picture was taken after I'd blow dried it, which happens about three times a year. It is currently one big knot after three days of swimming and not brushing, so I'd reconsider the hair envy Grin

Perhaps I'll leave it as it is for now then. Except now I've got the itch to change something so you'll have to give me something else I can do to spruce myself up Wink

Rather than dye it, have you thought about having it cut a bit shorter?

I think 2 inches off the bottom would make all the difference and would take off the very white blonde ends.

That's not a bad idea, DP was saying the other day how much he liked my hair in a picture where it was a few inches shorter

Your hair colour really suits you just as it is. You look very Scandinavian, very Saga Whatsherchops.

But I'd lob a few inches off the end so it has a bit more swish. And I'd darken the eyebrows.

If you do decide to dye it yourself and please don't use a semi permanent dye or even better a tint that will wash out.

Why not have some highlights put in by a hairdresser? It doesn't cost too much. Maybe you could offer yourself as a model so that trainees can practise on you which would make it cheaper. Also, hairdressers who come to your own home are a lot cheaper, especially if you get together with a couple of friends.

This is the picture he liked. But actually I think this had been freshly highlighted so is lighter all over than it is now.

I've tried to find trainees before and never had any luck, but at-home hairdresser is a brilliant idea, don't know why I didn't think of that.

I would chop two inches off the bottom, get a swishy side fringe in and dye with John friends medium ash blonde, it has lots of tones and would bring out your eyes I think :)
