Shoulder pads

I had a style analysis about 18 months ago and the consultant told me I should use shoulder pads to balance out my shape - at the time I completely dismissed it having visions of looking like a 1980's throwback .

However, I have been trying on everything in my wardrobe and have noticed that I do look much better in items with more defined shoulders or a small shoulder pad. There are dozens of types available to buy on line, all with mixed reviews. Does anyone here either buy shoulder pads to sew into clothes or have ones that you can put on under various items and can you recommend a good brand?
