Is it better to be an Apple or a Pear?

I'm definitely an Apple shape, big boobs and a tummy but no bum or hips and slender arms and legs. Have been since I was a teenager. I find it hard to get clothes that look good on my shape and feel that most UK fashion is cut more for a Pear - smaller boobs, small waist and bigger hips and bum. I also think a Pear's 'imperfections' are easier to hide in clothes, if I try to hide my big boobs I look 2 sizes bigger than I really am. I've also had pp ( genuinely ) assume I am pregnant over the years, which is hugely embarrassing. I'm only a size 14, so not slim but not massive either!

Was wondering what other pp thought? There may be lots of things about being pear shaped I haven't considered, would love to hear all your thoughts!

Now that's interesting. All my life I've been a pear, and imagined it to be much easier to be an apple!

If you're an apple you can wear shorts and short skirts, which I never could with my thunder thighs, fat knees and cankles (features common among pears), and your slim limbs can make you appear slim all over, with well-chosen tops.

Apple fashion seems to be going on a lot at the moment, with most of the clothes in the shops being skinny jeans and floaty tops. Such a combination makes me look gigantic, as the only places I'm slim are my shoulders and waist. My arse and boobs are huge, so anything that fits them, but doesn't go in at the waist is baaaaad.

I'm a apple and I hate it. I always look pregnant or frumpy

Destinysdaughter Thu 11-Aug-16 20:08:42

Hmm you'd think you can wear short skirts to show off your fabulous legs, but...I look so top heavy and my legs are so skinny that it looks ridiculous! I could wear a long skirt with a slit in it ( but where the hell do you get them any more?)

I've never been much of a fan of my body but as an apple I can say I'm happy being an apple and wouldn't choose to be a pear. Although I do lose my entire backside when skinny!

I am apple and would prefer to be pear. I too have been asked if I am pregnant at different times and have never been more than a stone and a half overweight.

Trousers/shorts not staying up is my biggest bug bear and it's considered to be more unhealthy and indicates a higher risk of diabetes.

I'm an hourglass which sounds great but it's really hard to dress. I have narrow shoulders, 30F bust, 28inch waist and huge thighs. Also a wobbly post c-section tummy.

As PP said all the fashion at present is geared towards Apple shapes- skinny trousers and draped tops make me look like I'm in pyjamas. And getting clothes to fit my waist as well as hips/bust is a nightmare.

I'm an apple and always thought I'd prefer to be a pear, but really it's a case of the grass is always greener - I don't my chunky upper arms and wobbly tummy but like my slim legs so I'm not sure if I'd actually swap if I had the chance!

Pear here and I think my big bottom and thighs make me look bigger than I am. There is no hiding them except in A line skirts.
When I was pregnant and had a bit of a tummy but was not yet ready to tell work, I found it easier to hide a bit of tum than my saddlebags.

Apparently pear is healthier as less fat around the vital organs.

I don't think I'm either, I'm quite boxy confused

mrsclooneytoyou Thu 11-Aug-16 20:57:29

Can I ask the apple posters, what do you wear, for a everyday outfit?

chocolatecheesecake Thu 11-Aug-16 21:04:25

I'm a pear and I am sick to death of trousers and shorts looking so tight on my bum and thighs (if they are not to be too loose around the waist) that I can only consider long bum covering tops. Apple seems far easier as previous posters have said, because so many tops seem designed for those with tummy. Whereas if I wear a top or dress with gathers or volume at the waist (front or back) I immediately look twice the size I am.

Very similar to Sugarandsalt, I'm an hourglass shape. I always feel that if I don't wear something that's fitted in the waist, I look like I've picked up a tent from Millets. But it's super hard to find anything that fits my shape as there never seems to be enough boob space in tops; and trousers that fit around the arse gape around the waist.
So I guess whatever shape you are, it's always tricky to find stuff that fits?!

I'm a pear shape (boardering on hour-glass after having DC) and I find it a nightmare shopping for trousers. Usually I end up going for stretchy fabrics as its the only thing that will fit over my thighs whilst not being too baggy on the waist. I try to go for skinny trousers and I know it doesn't hide my thighs, a baggy top or a big scarf balances me out a bit. Definitely wouldn't wear baggy trousers I would look about 2 sizes bigger than i am!

Im an apple and agree i have terrible trouble with clothes especially trousers i find i have to buy a bigger size to go over my tummy but then have loads of fabric flapping on my thighs and lower legs when i walk which feels like clown trousers

Honeyandfizz Thu 11-Aug-16 21:26:42

I'm pear shaped & find it a nightmare to get a pair of trousers to fit, they gape on the waist but don't fit my huge arse/thighs. I don't think I'd like to be Apple either though confused

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble Thu 11-Aug-16 21:28:59

I have huge shoulders , boobs , tummy and quite a round arse then two skinny legs which makes me resemble big bird off sesame street , at least if i was pear shaped i could wear a skirt and have a lovely thin top half

Destinysdaughter Thu 11-Aug-16 21:29:06

As a busty Apple I tend to wear the following:

Wrap dress
straight leg trousers ( to balance the boobs)
Tops that are fitted in the waist and skim the tummy and aren't too long with a round, v or sweetheart neck
Long, slightly floaty skirts
Waterfall cardis ( I know pp on here hate them but they suit my shape )
Fitted jackets
Long fitted coats

Really anything that gives the impression of a waist!

Cellardoor23 Thu 11-Aug-16 21:31:20

Is it just me or do you other pear shapes go through a ridiculous amount of trousers? My thighs constantly rub together and I end up with either the fabric fading quite quick or end up with holes blush

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble Thu 11-Aug-16 21:31:26

When i was a teen my friend was similar height and weight but i had to wear two sizes bigger she was pear me apple both envious of each others good bits

TheOddity Thu 11-Aug-16 21:35:28

I'm a banana and find it really tricky to show off my curves to advantage. Although I rock yellow.

poochiepants Thu 11-Aug-16 21:37:45

I'd just rather be a slim 25 year old again......confused

Destinysdaughter Thu 11-Aug-16 21:41:05

I quite like a nice maxi dress but not sure sometimes as it doesn't give me a waist!

mrsclooneytoyou Thu 11-Aug-16 21:58:38

Destiny you look fabulous in that dress

CoolToned Thu 11-Aug-16 22:08:28

Pear is healthier because less fat enveloping the abdominal area.

Pear also looks slimmer.

I'm a rectangle shape. Slim legs, big upper body, but big arms.
