Did you get a glass of fizz when you purchased your wedding dress?

Just that really.

You see on tv all the time women trying on wedding dresses being offered a glass of champagne. This never happened to me! I tried on 100s of dresses (bought the first one I tried on though but you have to be sure Grin) and never got close to being offered one. Tried on high end and low end, shops that you had to place a deposit to book an appointment and shops you could just rock up to. Had an appointment at a swanky one last thing on a Saturday, prime for champagne (it was the one I bought from in the end) and still didn't get offered!

Have any of you? Just being nosey really.

It's probably for the telly?

Not for my dress, but I went with a friend when she chose hers and we all got a glass of fizz then Grin

No. Not even when I spent nearly £6k on my dress.

Offered a glass of wine at one boutique, but that was all.

I got one at a second visit to a store, I didn't buy a dress there though Blush

I bought mine in a sample sale at a mid-high end shop. I took 7 people with me, we all got offered a glass of pink fizz when I found the one. I declined mine as I'd had a heavy session the night before. I thought it was normal but i wouldn't have expected it at the outlet place I was planning to visit next. I think you missed out on the "celebration" but apparently the fizz was warm and not very nice.

Wow, a deposit for an appointment? Was that lost if you decided not to buy from them?

I didn't get any fizz. I couldn't get over how unhelpful and unwelcoming some of the posh north London shops I tried were. Things like "oh you've only got time to try 4 dresses on" even when I'd made an appointment and been on time. I brought it from a much more friendly, sensible shop in the end.

No.

But then I did buy it online

Mine was too cheap for that. :)

Do you only have to try or do you have to buy? thinks where to go next time I feel like just a glass of bubbly

No, I had a mug of tea. A friend made my dress.

I was offered tea + biscuits during the trying on session, and everyone with me got a glass of champers once I'd made. My choice and it was official. Yorkshire hospitality it seems!

No, but I did get an unexpected discount due to drama in the wedding dress shop. I felt so bad for the staff that I tried to turn down the discount!

Yes I did. Several. It was a ridiculously hot day so loads of people cancelled but I still went as I'd travelled to be there. I had a few glasses Smile

Not a single glass - massive disappointment!

The worst place for snottiness for me was HOF bridal department on Oxford Street. It was the first place I tried and, although I had an idea of what I wanted, I did want to try on a variety of styles just in case something I wasn't expecting to looked amazing. Only the assistant would only let me try on 3 dresses that exactly fitted my original brief. They lost out though, I did actually try the dress I eventually bought on there, but got it from a much nicer (and cheaper) shop I visited later in the day.

I went to 5 shops, varying price ranges and we got fizz in 4 of them.

All my friends did too, I thought it was more common than not.

I didn't even get a private trying on session, much less a glass of fizz. It was the only wedding dress shop within 30 miles of where I live, and it was just like going into Top Shop on a Saturday afternoon. Tried to make appointment in a couple of other, more upmarket, places in the nearest city and they refused to see me because there was less than a year to my wedding. But there was also less than a year from my engagement to my wedding, so it would have been pretty weird to have been dress hunting before that. Confused

Im glad it wasn't just me that missed out! But I am pleased it's not a complete myth.

I should have said, we did get offered 'normal' drinks, just never the good stuff - in hindsight it's probably a good thing, as I would definitely have got carried away!

marriedinmau no, it was just if you didn't keep the appointment I think. In one where I had to pay a deposit though, I was sharing the space with another woman trying on, really poor I thought.

Seeing as I bought it in a high street store - no, I didn't.

Made up for it on the day. Wink

Yes, I did! My friend/bridesmaid and MIL were offered a glass as well. That said, I didn't actually end up buying from that shop Grin but they made me feel very special indeed.
I don't remember if they offered any in the shop where I did buy the dress, I seem to have a vague memory they did, but not sure!
Almost exactly 8 years ago now can you guess the date?!

No, not even when I bartered for the price. No idea why I did it, I never had a budget and my DM was paying anyway.

I'm in Leeds /WYorkshire.

I bet I could name 20 shops I know people have been to and they all had cheap fizz/Prosecco when trying on.

No fizz when buying wedding dress but did get given a small drawstring bag with a wedding day yankee candle in it on the day i collected it from the shop.

On the other hand, when DH and I got into the wedding car after the service the chauffeur produced 2 champagne flutes and 2 mini bottles of fizz and poured them for us Grin
