Help! Extremely sensitive to perfume. Searching for a very light, clean scent.

I have never worn perfume, but have recently had a yearning to have another look for a scent I can bear. Most perfumes make me feel sick or wheezy (I'm a bit asthmatic). I yearn for something very light and clean smelling. Fresh, perhaps even citrussy, but it must be very mild IYSWIM. Does such a scent exist? Thanks Flowers

Liz Earle Botanical Essences are lovely, and their products are suitable for sensitive skin.
Test them in John Lewis and some branches of Boots ( check stockists on Liz Earle website).

I find most perfumes make me sneeze or give me a headache. I have a decleor body spray that I sometimes wear as a perfume, and I find it light enough.

Just thought of another one: 4711, which I bought after reading about it, I think, in the Natural Beauty Bible.
It was only about 5 or 6 pounds in Boots.

Brilliant, thanks. Unfortunately, I also live right out in the sticks, so it's an hour's drive to the nearest Boots or Department store. I am planning on trying to get hold of some samples over the internet, so I can try them in the comfort of my own home. I will go a-searching with your suggestions. Many thanks.

Clarins Eau de Jardins is lovely, citrusy, summery, subtle, my favourite perfume.

Ellie's suggestion of Jo Malone is what I was about to say.
I use Peony & Blush Suede, which is light and subtle.

I agree with the Clarins suggestion. Love the red and the blue ones (dynamissante and ressourcante I think...). The jardins one is too flowery/sweet for me but it is v nice!

Elizabeth Arden green tea definitely!

It smells nothing like green tea by the way :)

Surely not Clarins Eau Dynamisante? It's instant headache and nausea for me and many others.

Report

No prejudice to Eau Dynamisante. I'm sure that many people love it and that there is nothing technically wrong wih it. . But other people have said on Mumsnet that it affects them adversely.

That Clarins one is awful! Instant nausea and migraine in a bottle! I'm extremely smell sensitive.

Hermes un jardin sur le nil. Fresh and green without being overpowering.

Or L'Occitane Verveine.

Clarins makes me feel nauseous too! I hate strong fragrances and perfumed products but I do like some of the Jo Malone ones. They are very light and don't last too long but I prefer that as I hate a strong lingering scent. I love the nectarine blossom and honey. Fresh, slightly citrusy and clean.

Try Nenuco cologne from Pure Spain. £6.95 for 600mls. It is very clean, fresh and light, really lovely. It is used in Spain from small children upwards so is very gentle and can be used liberally all over if you wish.
Highly recommended when it is hot.

Philosophy
QVC sell it , the Pure Grace is the 'cleanest' though to me it smelled like fabric conditioner. (Good job we're all different) Grin

4711, Acqua di Parma Colonia or Penhaligons Castile.

In a similar vein, I'm looking for something hot-weather friendly, fresh and herbal - possibly a bit minty? Any recommendations?

Wow I had no idea people were so anti Eau Dynamisante- I absolutely adore it and it sprang to my mind when I read "light, clean scent" with a citrus edge too.

Just shows to show how subjective our perfumes tastes are!

I've just sprayed Gucci's bamboo on me in Debenhams, and I'm quite liking it. Not sure if it meets your brief though! I love perfume, always makes me happy.
