What are you using in the first place? Have you tried anything for sensitive skin or baby wash?

Decent soap. Both cheap and no spots. Either healthfood shop or Dr bronner. Dr Bronner also do a liquid castile soap if you prefer liquid. Most other things give me spots on back and chest after a few weeks.

Moo Goo Milk wash. It smells lovely too. Gentle enough for kids/babies but also makes you feel properly clean. And gets all my make up off that I'm too lazy to do with a proper cleanser.

I was using dove Shea butter and vanilla one but just switched to simple....think I might go back to dove as that wasn't as bad as simple (not perfect though) unless something inspires me on here.

I am not a lover of bar soap as I find that takes me much longer in shower because I keep dropping it lol and I the liquid dr bronner I find quite drying :(
Didn't like moogoo either it flared my sons skin up

Almond Shower Oil from L'Occitane is lovely. Foams a little but not a lot, doesn't dry your skin out. Leaves it feeling very soft and the scent is subtle and delicious. It's a bit pricey but worth it, and it lasts quite a long time as you don't need much. It's also brilliant for shaving your legs; doesn't give me a rash like loads of other products do.

I second L'Occitane.
As it is so pricey I buy it every second bottle iykwim. In between I use Elave.
It has no nasties in it at all. It is non scented.

I loved the loccitane one too but I used it far too quick to warrant the price tag :( I shower twice a day and u think I used it up in less than a month

Why do you shower twice a day?
No wonder your skin is irritated!

I use Tesco Value shower gel. I find it very gentle and has a nice smell. It treats my sensitive skin kindly and does not make me itch etc.

I get prickly itchy skin if I even think about shower gel - even the nice ones for sensitive skin (E45 / Sanex / Simple).

Instead I use:

Shampoo and conditioner on my hair (as normal)
Face wash on my face and neck
Soap (Palmolive, so not even mild soap) on my armpits, bum and feet
Water everywhere else
Moisturiser (Aveeno, usually) when I get out

Do try Elave OP.
It can be used on children, it is so gentle.

Burt's Bees is fab. My daughter's eczema went after I switched her to it too.

I use Jason shower gel (mango is my favourite). Most shower gels make me itchy, and Jason is the best value one of the ones that don't.

OP are you sure that it's the shower gel that causes the spots on your chest and back? Maybe they'd be there anyway? It might be adult acne and you might want to see your GP about it.
The amount of time a shower product is on your skin, you'd have to be really allergic to some ingredients for it to make your skin itch or develop spots.
Why not switch to a bar of soap for a month and see what happens? Soaps like Simple or any supermarket own brand pure vegetable soap that's unperfumed.

I alternate between L'Occitane almond oil and the Aveeno shower gel or oil. But do prefer the almond oil, just stocked up on TSV from QVC at the weekend.

Try Aveeno shower gel. It is really gentle due to the oat extract in the formulation but is also creamy and feel like a treat to the skin. You can buy it at Boots and Superdrug. Just bear in mind that there is no fancy smell like some of the body washes you find in other brands.

Don't shower twice a day! Use something without SLS and see if that makes a difference.

Came on to say L'occitaine. I read about it on here and it's wonderful stuff.

Another shout for Jason. Everything else brings me out in hives

It sounds like you have allergies or sensitive skin at the very least.

I suggest Sanex Zero or a plain soap with no added crap.

You might need to check the ingredients of your shampoo and other beauty products too.

"Why do you shower twice a day?

This ^^. And why do you need to use shower gel all over each time you shower? I prefer to use bars of soap rather than shower gel, and only use it on the necessary areas. I don't need to soap all over every time I shower as I don't get dirty.

Dettol soap is good for a proper proper clean. Infact any old soap bar. Shower gels don't clean properly, I find they just coat my skin in something that makes it feel slippery

Oh I forgot to add, if you condition your hair and wash it off after you've already soaped up, the conditioner residue stays on your back and maybe that is blocking up your pores? I always used to soap my back last and it's made such a difference. Just keep your hair away from your back afterwards too

I think the showering twice a day is your issue. You are stripping your skin too often.

Report
PollyPerky · 14/07/2016 07:35

TBH showering twice a day is not unusual or excessive. There is no way I could face the day without a quick shower after sweating during the night and a shower is much quicker than an all over wash with a flannel. Ditto end of day- who goes to bed with the day's sweat on them? I don't 'wash' my back in the shower, just use plain water. I do have a bath at night.

I think the OP may have adult acne or it's the shampoo that's causing the issue- never wash your hair in the shower because whatever you're using goes all over your body.
