Shellac chipped after four days

I has IBX and shellac done Wednesday afternoon, it's the first time I've had it done. Full manicure, paraffin wax, the lot, was a gift from a friend for my birthday. I've not banged my nail, thumb, or done anything heavy, I've only been in the garden this afternoon as its done nothing but rain for days and that was only to dead head and feed the veg and strawberries. It felt at first the there was a snag on the edge of the nail so I files the edge but it turned out to be the shellac lifting. Is there anything I can do with it to stop it getting worse? I've got another appoint the but it's not for over two weeks. The person who did it works on her
own and she said they'd be fine for at least two weeks and the date I'm booked was the first time she could do them again.

Ive had shellac twice and both times it lifted quite quickly. As long as you dont pick it, it should be ok.

Thanks Gin I'll have to try and see what she can do, the shop is closed Monday and Tuesday so it won't be until Wednesday at least

What is ibx and shellac then? Why not one of the other?

I'm no expert put I would imagine you can't have paraffin wax with gel polish?

Hi I'm a nail tech
Yeah if it's peeling of the nail it could be incorrect prep. Ie oil on the nail so you could do a parrafin treatment as long as the oil was scrubbed off the nail before applying the gel. Also, with each layer of gel, the nail tech will 'seal' it by wiping her brush at the end of the nail. So if you file it yourself, the seal is broke and the gel will lift. Gelish, shellac etc aren't suitable for all nails... I can't use them on their own. My nails have always been too soft.
Don't file at it yourself unless it's annoying you and if another goes give her a ring get her to buff em and put another coat or 2 of the topcoat. Xx

Might be lanolin causing it to lift if it's in any products you use

Unimaginative IBX is a nail treatment and shellac is a gel polish, the treatment is supposed to protect the nail. As for the paraffin wax, it was all part of the luxury manicure that included both the IBX and shellac they weren't things I chose separately so I'm assuming they should all be fine together.
Crazy she did wipe my nails between the different applications but maybe one was missed, I honestly only filed the edge as it was catching, I thought it was my nail as it looked like the polish wasn't right up to the edge but it was still catching and when I put my glasses on to have a closer look I could she the polish lifting, I'm trying to leave it alone as I don't want to start peeling it off and wrecking my own nail. I can't do anything before Wednesday at the earliest as she's closed unless I try another salon. I bought a solar oil which I've been using and my hand cream is palmers coco butter, not sure if there's lanolin in that, I'll have to have a look. To be honest my nails were ok when I went in, no peeling, though I had just sliced my other thumb nail a bit shorter before my appointment while chopping onions Blush my nails tend to be ok in summer it's wintertime when they can peel and be a bit brittle. If my friend hadn't got it for me as a gift I'd not have bothered having it done, not at £40 anyway Grin

Shellac only lasts 2-3 days on me & just peels off & lifts. I am a beauty therapist so follow the correct aftercare. I've had it done twice now at different places & the same thing has happened. Acrylics start to lift on me after a week & gel nails after a few days. It could just be your nails.

Filing it yourself breaks the seal so can cause lifting.,
Was the wet manicure part-the paraffin, any soaking etc done before or after the IBX and shellac application?

IBX is nail strengthening and repairing treatment. You can have it alone or under a gel polish. It's an excellent treatment for the nail but doesn't leave a colour or shine it just improved the health of the nail.

My gel manicure lasts for four weeks, until each payday.
I would not be happy at all, and would be back at that salon asap for them to redo the nail.
Not acceptable at all -especially at that price.

4 weeks beautifullymixed?! That's impressive. I have an appointment tonight, it's not even been three weeks and the and my nails have grown way too much to keep it any longer, there's a big gap between the cuticle and my nail varnish after two weeks. Maybe my nails hair grow really fast. Would love to get four weeks out of it, just thinking of the money I'd save!

They do grow fast, especially as I take biotin and silica, but I try and ignore the gap as much as possible Smile

I keep the cuticle hydrated with my CND solar oil, and think about my cash flow situation. That cures any need to rush to the salon for fresh, shiny nails and a new colour.
I always get my toenails painted to match at the same time too. My payday treat.

CND shellac is a 2 week power polish. It's a hybrid mix of gel and polish so usually lasts 2 weeks on healthy nails. It differs from a pure gel polish which usually lasts 3 weeks on healthy nails.
You shouldn't expect 2 weeks from shellac

The paraffin was done before the shellac, it hasn't got any worse which is good so I'll ring on Wednesday and see when I can get it fixed

When gel polish is being applied any wet or oily treatments should be done after completing application of the gel polish.
Doing them before will affect wear time.

Itsbetter the shellac was done after the paraffin wax, exfoliate, the only thing which was applied after my nails were done was solar oil. My nails were in a reasonable condition not peeling and the person who did them said they were too, I was told they should last at least two weeks and that any people go three weeks some even four but that as the nails will have grown quite a bit by then it looks odd with the gap showing .
If it's not normal for shellac to last at least two weeks then there's no way I'm having them done again. It would cost over £50 a month and to be honest I'd rather put that in my ISA and just have an occasional manicure Grin
