Lumity vitamins - honest reviews, please

I'm just about to start my second month of taking the incredibly pricy Lumity vitamins, and I don't know what I think of them.

They claim to give you amazing skin, energy, sleep and emotional calm, which I would love! But I didn't feel particularly amazing during the first month.

If you've tried them, please let me know what your experiences were. Thanks!

what ingredients are different in these from the Wilkinson equivalent?

Ha ha! It's all stuff like flax seeds, and um, stuff. I've forgotten. (They're not doing much for my mental clarity, it seems.)

Has anyone ever tried them? They're vitamins and minerals, specially balanced for women. You take 3 of one type in the morning, and 3 of a different type before bed.

Anyone?

unless you are pregnant or trying to be, there's no 'special vitamins for women'. If you are eating properly and still not feeling right, go see a medical professional rather than wasting money on health-babble.

Hi - just so you know, Lumity is not "special vitamins" it's a supplement which tackles all 9 causes of ageing and it takes a while to undo all the cellular damage you've done to your body over the years.

I was sceptical but tried and slept better from the first night and by the end of month 1 noticed my heavy periods were really light. By month 2 I felt clearer and had less brain food, by month 3 I was coming out of what felt like a ten year slump. The PMT rages and irritation were gone, I had lost weight without trying and I was calmer, happier and more positive in general.

To understand how it works you need to read up on the ingredients.

Here's some info I found which is easy to understand:

The morning softgels, which contain vitamins ranging from Vitamin A and zinc to magnesium and Co-enzyme Q10, spring your cells’ energy centres into action, to give you a new level of vitality, and they also contribute to collagen and elastin formation in your skin, clearing out toxins, repairing oxidative damage and protecting DNA.

The evening softgels, containing flaxseed oil and amino acids from Lysine to L-Arginine to be taken at bedtime, reinforce the antioxidant and anti-glycation action of the morning vitamins, and stimulate the release of Human Growth Hormone, which are important to building muscle, healthy tissue and bone density.

Most people taking the full range notice the difference in the second and third month – so the longer you take them, the better you will look and feel. After all, a lifetime’s worth of damage can’t just be undone in just a few weeks.

Good luck and remember it's not Adderall and Ritalin so you won't be running a marathon on the first day, but hey if it is good enough for Yasmin Le Bon (who swears by Lumity as her beauty and health secret) then it's good enough for me!

;-)

Anyway, let us know how you get on after month 2.

the cause of ageing is the passing of time and not dying first. Do tell me what the other 8 causes are?

arginine is used to measure growth hormone levels. Evidence please that it stimulates growth hormone release, and that such stimulation would provide 'anti-ageing effects'.

(repeat for all the other claims)

Le Bon looks like that due to fortunate genetics, not due to being paid to advertise creams and pills. (Everyone's got to earn a living)

there's NOTHING in there that you can't get from decent food. Or from Wilkinson's supplements if you don't eat properly.

the founder does indeed seem to have a PhD in biology and the claims in the 'science' section on the website are sort of true - but the effects are minimal.

ENTIRELY each individula's personal choice, obviously, but:

(a) any marketing blurb - which the above material is (it's from the company website) - that contains the word 'toxins' seems suspicious to me. So far as I know, the term is pretty meaningless when used in the context of health supplements/ 'detox programs' and the like. Our livers and kidneys remove toxic substances very efficiently.

(b) a balanced diet should contain all the aminio acids we need for health. An excess is not necessarily good - for example, Lysine can cause digestive problems; L-Arginine is not recommended for people with asthma, etc etc etc. You can check amino-acids out on this website, which backs statements with references to reputable scientific papers: www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-237-lysine.aspx?activeingredientid=237&activeingredientname=lysine

Except for people with specific rare diseases, there is no proven evidence that taking Human Growth Hormone (or products that claim to increase the body's production of it) delays aging or 'turns back the clock'. Indeed, too much HGH can be dangerous

This article (it has a section on supplements) is balanced and sensible - it says that supplements can sometimes be helpful, but if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is:

Thank you, everyone! I'm going to give it another 2 months. I quit smoking a month ago and I'm saving over £200 a month, so it feels sort of rewarding to be spending that money on healthy stuff.

It'll be interesting to see what my second period is like on Lumity pills; they have been SO HEAVY in the past year or so. Last month's was quite a bit lighter. And maybe I wasn't quite as ragey as I had been before.

Thing is though, I'll only know if they're working if I STOP taking them!

My skin is better - I can get away with less foundation - but is that just because I stopped smoking??

I would totally recommend it! Found it via a friend who loved it and got it for sleep as that's what she was raving about. I'm on month 2, sleep sightly better but I'd never expected my PMT to go and it HAS , BUT TOTALLY! i've never had a month without really crap period pain, moods, tearfulness and last month I had hardly any, I put it down to a fluke, but this month same again. I'm getting back a week of my life. Priceless. Go for it, I guess the results are different for everyone

Hi! apols for the slow reply we have been in Cornwall with the in-laws but I just got back and a new delivery of Lumity was waiting for me. Your lucky your skin has improved so fast after giving up smoking, mine was awful and sallow looking for several months after I quit.

My heavy periods have totally become bearable with Lumity and I'm not arguing with my husband. I'm nicer and more chill and enjoying life more.

I hope things are working for you?

I've never found something like this before - my facialist actually said yesterday that my skin is better now than she has ever seen it. xx

Sorry but there is absolutely no way you can turn back time, so what catsmiaow is saying is complete bollocks. Eat properly, exercise regularly, get some professional facials and stop looking for a short cut.

thecatsmiaow · 23/07/2016 20:20

Goodness me I wouldn't want to turn back time for all the tea in china. It's not about that for me, it's more how it makes me feel. When you are sleeping better and your pmt and heavy periods (sorry to be gross) are no longer an issue it is money well spent, skin looking better is a bonus for me. I tried so many things and spent a small fortune trying to feel as great as I do now, think how much we spend on skincare and facials. I had a facial recently and it was £110! But I'm not trying to make anyone else take them as well, just saying to the lady above that I personally am a fan.

Blimey. Bits of this thread are like an "infomercial"!

Why would mentioning heavy periods be 'gross'? This is a forum packed with women and even if it wasn't periods are natural part of life and nothing to be ashamed of. Hmm

Report
thecatsmiaow · 24/07/2016 18:09

Haha - yeah I agree they're completely natural. I'm not used to talking about them online is all, my dad was a vicar so I guess that as wild as I was in my 20s that shy side of my personality is finally coming out. I've had a look at the Lumity website to examine the claims and the scientist behind it. Much is made of the founder Sara Palmer Hussey, who is supposed to be 'research biologist'. I can't find any papers written by her at all. I was going to have a read of some of her work to see what she is about. Can anyone point me in the direction of her research please?

I too would love to read the proof of these claims.
I'm totally with florascotia on the 'toxins' thing. Wouldn't trust anything that talks about toxins. What are these toxins?? What chemical form do they take? Where do they go and what do they do?

Would that all the gynaecologists in the country knew about these vitamins. All the money the nhs could be saving....

Sorry to be facetious but seriously, stop and save your money. Eat well, sleep well, drink well, exercise a bit, don't smoke and use SPF everyday. I only wish I could charge £85 a month for that.Envy Heck of a lot more effective than those vitamins.

I've been taking them for three months and don't notice any difference at all. Still feel a slump at 3.00pm and haven't slept any better. My hair is slightly better but that could be josh wood shampoo and oil that I bought recently.

Some of the anecdotes on here about this product don't sound very impartial. There is absolutely nothing in this supplement that can't be found in foods. If you're going to believe celebrity endorsements then be prepared to be duped. Often they are paid to say what they say. And think about it, you only have to read the beauty editor's pages in any of the weekend newspapers to work out that it's impossible for everything they review, to actually work because if they did, then beauty editors would be the most wrinkle-free people on the planet. They are sent what is allegedly the best of what's new on the market, every day of the week, but clearly, they don't work because beauty editors look just like the test of us!

Yasmin le Bon looks the way she does because she can afford the absolute best nutrition, the best of personal trainers and stylists, the best beauty therapist and she was obviously a fine physical specimen of a human being to start with. So let's be sensible here, buy the best you can afford of anything, read the label carefully, do your research; and in the meantime, eat nutritious food (organic where you can afford to), get some early nights, drink less alcohol and more clear fluids, find a realistic form of exercise. Blah, blah, you've heard it all before and you know it to be true

The right supplements will no doubt help but can't be a substitute for the above, so choose carefully
