wedding ideas - plus size help

My brother is getting married in August. His fiancées heritage is Asian and she will be wearing Indian wedding dresses. Ours is not Asian and my brother will be wearing a smart lounge suit

There's a whole series of events - so I need more than one outfit!

1. Religious ceremony at brides parents home followed by lunch at a restaurant. Brother has said wear something smart/casual. Bride has said "afternoon summer smart" with shoulders covered and need a scarf to cover head for ceremony

1. Mehndi party again at brides parents house evening before wedding. Women only. No dress code given but apparently traditional to wear bright colours

1. Civil ceremony followed by reception at stately home type place

Have bought 4 dresses but not sure suitable. Plus at my size (22) feel not v comfortable in a dress. Will try to link pictures

(Also do you think my dh should wear a suit to 1 (above) or chinos/shirt/blazer

I think this is gorgeous, I ordered it and the xl was too big, also got a 2xl which was huge on me, I'm currently 18-20 (as have just had a baby and it 's left it's bump behind) returned them recently so worth checking to see if they have any more coming in if you like it. I keep checking for a large coming in.

House of Fraser have lots in the sale atm so worth checking there - tk max have a few of the studio 8 dresses but much cheaper

I really like the green one. I have been coveting it since I saw it reviewed by a plus size blogger.

Love the blue lace one too. The fuschia studio 8 one is a very pretty dress too.

I like the green one best. The stripe one is a nice shape but i'm not so keen on the fabric pattern...if you like Studio 8 why not have a look at their website - lots more choice on there.

Very much an apple - especially post dd who is just 1. But generally wobbly and bumpy all over

I tried the fushia one but it was too clingy.

I think I'll wear the green one for what I'm considering the main event - the civil ceremony and reception. Wish it covered my arms a bit more though...

Planning to do weights every day to try to tone up a bit

Do you think I can wear the stripey one for the religious ceremony/lunch which has the dress code "smart summer afternoon"? If so, do you think I can get away with flats and what colour headscarf? Navy?

In which case I could wear the flowery one to the mehndi night

The green one had a hole in in John Lewis, so ordered a new one to be delivered. It was a crumpled mess and hangs very oddly - not at all like the one I tried on in the shop. so will return that one.

Had decided on the stripey one below for he main event but checked with a colleague at work who said it's too casual and that I should go for brighter colours. So ordered the orange one below which I didn't buy at the time. Will I look like the tango man? Do you think it will go with a black shrug of some description to cover up my wobbly arms???

I don't like the stripe one. It looks like a day dress.

The orange one is much nicer.

Shame about the green one as liked that one.

Jewel colours I think will suit you more and are more suitable for the wedding.

Without being rude but whilst the orange dress suits your colouring it would be a good idea to wear a proper foundation garment to smooth your waist and hips and give some uplift to your bosom rather than battening it down!

Gorgeous dresses. For the arm coverage issue a v lightweight scarf is useful. You can drape as needed snd even cover hair slighty if better. For scarf a light colour - not black
I love the stripes and think that's def afternoon summer smart. The green is lovely maybe for men dhi or for evening do.
I find I'm unsure about the dresses w lace - feels wrong underwearish and advise against the red and the purple on. The lack of sleeves on red one alsof not good. I'd try for a real English garden party dress of you need one more. A Big floral. Would suit you and look great in a sea of Indian attire. Show off were you a from - can be nice on those type of occasions

Some helpful comments - for you dh he should be fine in chinos, shirt, blazer for the religious ceremony that isn't the wedding. Been to several of these things and most of my male relatives/friends would wear this and will only wear a suit if absolutely forced to

Alternatively Jewel colours, lots of sparkle (go mad with bangles and big earrings - accessorize great for this ).

Wouldn't feel at all comfortable in Indian clothes and it's very much a mixed wedding - my brothers not Indian

If you decide to wear something closer to the Indian tradition then you should ask your brother's fiancee if she has time to take you shopping (Assuming you live in the right part of the country). I went to the Hindu wedding of a good friend of mine in India and her mother and grandmother helped me to find appropriate local attire. Her aunts were so appreciative that I was willing to conform to local custom like that. It would probably be particularly appropriate for the mehnidi party where it'll be all girls. Also my experience is that a sari is extremely flattering on a larger lady so there are plenty of pluses here.

I would avoid wearing red as that's the bride's colour.

Green and yellow are traditional colours to wear on a mehndi (natural henna colours) so your green dress would have been perfect colour wise.

I really wouldn't bother buying something Asian unless you plan to wear it again.
