Does anyone else own hair like mine?

I hate it.
Its past my shoulders (short hair looks crap on me ) I never wear it up .
Its dyed dark brown as I started going grey very young. My hair has Imo thinned over the years but its always been fine but lots of it . I loathe the way it just sort of hangs down as there is no weight in it. Other peoples hair swings mine just hangs like webs by my face.
What the hell can I do with it. ?

Me! Mid-mousy brown, with ash in it, so looks almost grey at times. It is thick but fine so rather than have a glorious mane I have wispy straggles.

Layers make it flyaway, no layers and volume means it all gets a bit triangle head. Have finally grown it past shoulders so at least ends don't flip up all over the place but no idea what's next. Would like a style, not just hair.

Have you tried a volume shampoo?
I swear by the umberto gianni one.
Mousse is good for giving it a bit lift.
Wearing your hair on the side is good for fooling people into thinking you have more volume in your hair.
Root lift spray is a god send too.
Or try cutting a few bits at the front to frame your face.

I have tried so many products , volume , root lift etc. They may work the first few times but then stop. Also leave my hair dry and sticky.

My hair used to be thick but I lost a lot of hair after DS2 was born 10 years ago and it never grew back the same.

It's fine, prone to frizz, hangs in lank tendrils and I have awfully greasy roots so I need to wash it every day, twice if I'm going out in the evening.

Naturally it's a mousey/ash brown with the odd grey, but I dye it dark brown. It's currently shoulder length but I never know what length looks best. I had it in a graduated bob last year but it looked very flat at the back so I don't know if it was a good style for me.

I hate my hair actually.

Yes I too have quite a lot of hair but it's baby fine. Really hard to manage. Have tried many volumising products but not found any miracle solution. I spend a lot on cut and colour.

Anyone have a particularly good root lift spray that doesn't make hair sticky?

Fine hair responds well to protein. I use Joico K-Pak reconstructor. It works in 5 minutes. You wash, condition, use the reconstructor for 5 minutes, then deep condition (I use their intense hydrator for this).

Philip Kingsley Maximiser spray , just a little , works really well for me . I have fine hair that is thin but still
frizzy .

Dying it blonder will thicken it up as bleach 'roughs' up each hair cuticle. Highlights in fine hair also give the illusion of volume. This is a commitment though as bleached hair is high maintenance.

Is your hair all the same length? I've had layers cut in to mine, from just under the chin downwards. I do straighten it every other day, but I slightly curl the ends under and it makes it a lot more interesting, and it 'swings' now too.

My hair is quite long with a middle parting, so if I don't have layers I look like Morticia Adams

I understood that if your hair is very fine like mine is that you shouldn't have layers?

I think that's your problem. Shorter hair (shorter layers) are lighter and easy to get more root lift on. Some layers in it would probably help.

If you have a good hair dresser, also ask them about pannelling and whether that would suit your hair. It may not though - that's when they cut concealed shorter layers into the hair below the top layers. It may only be for thicker hair though that one.

Ooh I've never heard of panelling, I agree that could work too. If you get a good inch cut off OP this will make it look and feel thicker, and then you can have layers or panelling for a fuller look.
