Best white skinny jeans, oh and will I look mutton?

I'm 46 and been hankering after white skinny jeans for a while. I've lost 3 stone over the last year so am now a size 8-10 and 5ft 7.

Can they look awful though? My legs are a decent shape I think as I run.

P'interest is good for looking at outfits but the women there are all youthful and glamorous. I am not.

Can anyone recommend a brand? Should I go ankle grazers? I'd wear with flip flops, converse or I have some strappy tan heels for glamming up.

Help!

Oddly enough, I got these really nice ones from Primark a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't going to bother looking because I assumed they'd be see through but they're not bad at all, they're thick stretchy denim (although I still wear a thong rather than normal knickers with them). I'm the same size as you, with wide hips and slim legs and they fit really nicely.

P.S. Well done on the weight loss!

Liz Hurley is older than you and she looks great in white jeans. With your height, legs and weight loss I am sure you will look amazing too.

These are from Uniqlo. I have loads of pairs but I buy the cropped because I am a short person.

I like La Redoute's white skinny jeans as they're not too see-through and come up well after each wash (and I have two young DCs so my white trousers need to be fairly robust).

Thanks all will check out those links, plus I have a Primark near me so can have a try on. See through look wouldn't be great I imagine Shock

And yes Liz Hurley would be amazing, but I'm thinking I may come across more Liz MacDonald Grin

I went to see 'Jackie - The Musical' stage show recently. Predictably the audience was about 95% women of a certain age. I never been in a space where so many people were wearing white trousers/jeans. Every size and shape were present, crinkled linen, cropped, skin tight skinnies, boyfriend cut, kick and flare etc. Normally I don't like to be dressed like other people, but white jeans are practically a neutral now so there is still plenty of scope for individual style to show.

And the show was great too - not Shakespeare standard, but lots of laughs and some tears. A fun night out.

Well done on your weight loss, that's fab! Personally I'm no help on brands but I think go for it X

Try them on and see. It just depends really, on the person and not if they are a mutton or a lamb.

I wouldn't wear them just because I'm so convinced I'd get them dirty before I'd even left the house.

Pintrest is full of young, skinny mostly white, very American looking women. Hmm.

white jeans are a neutral as PP says. Wear them if you like them.🙂

I think they're great. Personally, I would not wear them with heels. Ballerinas for day and flat sandals for evening.

Emmanuelle alt is almost 50 and wears white jeans a lot. Trick is don't put anything glitzy with them, grey t shirt, black or navy Jersey blazer. Very definition of Parisian chic.

I have a few pairs, gap, banana republic ( which are really nice and thick) and a cropped skinny pair from bodens current offering.

Nappysan is useful for keeping them white.....

I have these ones after the lovely Nikki on midlifechic recommended them m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-trousers-jeans/jeans/wc171/womens-zip-ankle-skimmer

Here is her review of practically all the cropped white trousers on the market www.midlifechic.com/best-tailored-cropped-trousers-for-women-over-40/

Thank you for all the advice. So no glitzy top and no heels with them. Blimey, so what could I put on top with them for a night out?

So for a night out (in a casual pub type thing) I would wear a silk blouse ( khaki or navy out of preference khaki here www.marksandspencer.com/pure-silk-button-through-shirt/p/p22444173?image=SD_01_T43_4985_KY_X_EC_90&color=IVORY&prevPage=srp&pdpredihate this is brilliant quality, or navy m.jaeger.co.uk/silk-oversized-casual-shirt/651098R.html?q=Silk%20blouse&dwvar_651098R_color=75000&start=2&dwvar_651098R_size=6

I would wear heels... Maybe even a peep toe boot type

I'm a huge fan of white jeans and wear them year-round (I'm 49).

Agree they are a great neutral. As good for a summer night out with a pretty top and sandals as they are in the winter with a grey/black/navy jumper and boots.

My current faves are from Mint Velvet. The golden rule is to make sure the denim is fairly thick and not too tight; nothing worse than pink sausage legs showing through thin white jeans. I usually wear them turned up to flash some ankle.

Thanks everyone. Think I need to do some shopping/ordering and trying on from suggestions here.

I'm thinking tight sausage legs with black thong showing through is the look to avoid, yes? Wish I could pull off those hip p'interest looks though. I'm a decent shape now, with long brown hair, but I always feel like an out of date scruff Confused.

Perhaps I need to model any potential white skinnies in front of DD. She's brutally honest, I say in our house there's 2 things that tell the truth.... leggings and DD Grin.

I will soon be accompanying my DH on a business visit to a hot, sunny island. We have done this annual trip (which for me is mostly socialising and schmoozing) for over 10 years.
My entire evening wardrobe this year will be white skinnies in full or cropped length dressed up or down with heel/wedges and a range of longish, floaty tops of varying degrees of dressiness that I will match to the relative poshness of the venues. I might even dress down to light weight white jeggings and flats for a couple of daytime events.

As I mentioned we have been doing this trip for years and I have dressed at every level that I feel comfortable in from Spanx and custom made cocktail dresses to my current skinnies and silky top level and this is the year I have felt most confident about my packing and appearance.
I would feel awkward turning up at a cocktail party in white jeans and flats, but the same party with white jeans and some sparkly Jimmy Choo look-a-like heeled sandals feels like a great look to me.

OP - Read all the posts, imagine yourself in the outfits suggested and then dress to please yourself.

I love white skinny jeans.
Every spring/summer I have to buy a new pair(basically because they've turned a yellow colour after living in them for 4 months)
I got mine from Zara for around £27.99.
Not see through, wash well and regain the shape.
I love wearing mine with a stripy top..always feel very nautical.

I love white jeans!

Mine are from Zara. They were £19.99 so more expensive than some on here but they are so nice. Completely non see through, stretchy but don't stretch out of shape, and a nice medium waist - not too low.

How the hell do people keep them clean? I'm the sort of person who attracts dirt. I'd look like a chimney sweep within seconds 😟

Matalan do a pair for £15.

I got a black bikers jacket from Primary. I wear them with heels and even if I say so I really rock the ageing rock chick look.Grin

I am 52, 5'3"and weigh nine stone.

This time last year I was waiting on histology reports on a tumour, it turned out to be malignant, I have had a dreadful year. I look good in them and I am now a fully paid up member of the JFDI club.

So don't worry what other people think they don't matter.
