My 11 yr old wants a costume with this on it. Costume is perfectly modest I just don't understand the connotations of the statement --I'm ol--d

Don't want her to wear anything that's has even the remostest hint of inappropriate.

I think it's just a lifeguard thing?

No idea but don't think it's anything awful.

ScarlettDarling Sat 25-Jun-16 08:42:21

Yep, I'm old too so I prob don't understand it but it seems innocent enough to me. I'd say it meant a group who hang out on the beach? Don't see a problem.

ScarletForYa Sat 25-Jun-16 08:44:33

It's something to do with life guards.

I think the word squad is used when talking about a group of friends, I might be wrong cause I'm not exactly down with the kids grin

RonSwansonsBestFriend Sat 25-Jun-16 09:40:02

One indication is they have the same statement on the adult version which is not as modest?

LottieDoubtie Sat 25-Jun-16 09:41:45

I would guess it's a lifeguard thing.

Lifeguard imagery is not exclusively immodest so sounds like they have made children's and more mature versions.

You're thinking too much into it. If the costume itself is modest, then no problems.

SoupDragon Sat 25-Jun-16 09:47:39

I think it's to do with life guards/beach patrol.

Adult costumes will generally be less modest anyway.

It's just a little bit "Baywatch" but I don't think that's inappropriate as such.

UptheAnty Sat 25-Jun-16 09:52:13

Squad is ok smile
Translated means, beach group 😃 Not gang I'm reliably informed as that has "negative connotations". 12yr old, I kid you not.

You're just cool if you're in a squad!!

On fleek = on point - looking sharp.
Yolo= you only live once.
Bae= best friend.

Who knewconfused

PimmsIsMyDrinkOfChoice Sat 25-Jun-16 09:54:26

I missed the first sentence in capitals, and though you meant costume has I'm old written on it

Fabellini Sat 25-Jun-16 09:56:05

Your squad is your group of close friends. From the States originally I think. Taylor Swift has a squad of equally famous friends that she drags on stage at her concerts. Various Kardashian and Hadid sisters are photographed wandering down the street together with the caption "squad goals" Meaning that all groups of friends should aspire to being 6foot tall glamazons I guess......
Anyway, Beach Squad doesn't mean anything bad, or sexual, or's just the current slang for friends.

BuzzLightyearsHoneyBun Sat 25-Jun-16 09:57:38

It means part of a group of friends on the beach
Secondary school teacher here, one group of girls call themselves "English Squad" because they are friends in English class! Or you could have "converse squad" because they all wear converse.
That's how it works in my school anyway

fortifiedwithtea Sat 25-Jun-16 10:00:01

Its harmless my 13 year old DD is always saying squad goals

Scarydinosaurs Sat 25-Jun-16 10:01:12

It just means friends, squad is a cool word at the moment. She won't want to wear it next summer 😁

Thanks for all the replies, satisfied that it's ok to buy it for her.

Am chuckling at one poster's thinking that the swimsuit said 'I'M OLD' on it.

Maybe I should search for such a cossie, though don't really need to state the obvious, it's quite clear from the sight of me on the beach #over40 #gravityisnotyourfriend

I thought the slogan was "I'm old." You wouldn't catch me printing that on my bikini, but hey.

I think "Beach Squad" is innocent.
