Holiday wardrobe - critique please!

We're off to Switzerland next Monday. Ten days, staying in a eurocamp with a car and will use as a base for exploring surrounding area. For some insane reason, we've decided to go hand luggage only. This includes our towels and bedlinen, eek! Kids are sorted, I'm in the process of planning out my limited holiday capsule wardrobe. Any feedback appreciated.

Wear to the airport:
Skinny jeans, white converse, white camisole and white shirt. Shower proof trench coat.

Pack:
6 pairs knickers
4 pairs ankle socks
1 bra
2 cami vest tops (thin, for layering, not to wear by themselves)
1 pair skinny jeggings
2 pairs Shorts (neutral colour, and a blue/grey stripe pair)
4 tops/blouses
1 skirt (if I can find one I like!)
1 tankini
1 pair sandals
2 cardigans

Planning to do one dark and one light wash when there.

It'll probably do you for that time there.

I'd add another pair of jeggings or jeans and also extra pair of knickers and ankle socks.

Also will you go out in the evening and if so what to wear? Dress etc?

I'd also look at a light jacket (outdoor wear type).

Would you also wear a light jumper if colder in evenings, could be a fleece too.

No plans for evenings that require nice clothes. BBQs, the odd meal out. Nothing fancy.

Yes, I really need to find a nice jumper. I have been Kondo-ing my wardrobe and am still searching for a perfect lightweight jumper. Saw one in Monsoon sale today but did not have the time to try on, will try nip back tomorrow.

I don't know if I'll have room for another jacket - plus I only have two trench coats, and then a hideous winter ski type jacket that I must replace with something nicer pronto

Don't make your only shirt a white one. It won't stay clean for very long. Also, won't youneec trainers, presumably there'll be a fair bit of walking!

I only have converse or my running trainers, think converse will be fine for the amount of walking. We've hired bikes so will probably do a lot of our exploring on them.

Probably 2 of my 'tops' will be other coloured shirts, and then two long sleeved blouses. Maybe I should try take more tops?

Have realised I've left off PJs. Suspect no room for them, husband will be thrilled.

Have you got any easy to roll tops (like crinkle or the creases drop out easily) as they could work.

If you're near a supermarket/hypermarket they sell PJ/nightshirts etc and often nicer than UK so I'd buy when there if you need it!

All sounds fine, but sack off the white vest and shirt and wear a more forgiving colour.

I wouldn't travel in all white and risk wrecking an outfit. FWIW I went to New Zealand for a fortnight with just hand luggage and took about what you have, was fine

Yes you are right, will wear a better shirt to travel and save white for there.

Definitely rolling everything- have had a practise with the kids' stuff and it's the only way it will all fit! Holding the rolls tightly together with elastic bands too.

Hand luggage would be totally fine if we didn't have to each take a towel and a set of bedding. But sure we will manage!

remember all your liquids have to fit in one of those small plastic bags per person, that includes make up! So plan your small tubs of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant for everyone. Plus suncream - will you buy there?

Travel towels are awesome and dry incredibly quickly

Are your clothes practical/outdoorsy enough? Have you a fleece for altitude etc? Are you in the Alps?

Yes we have three kids, so five potential little plastic bags. One for make up; one for toothbrushes, toothpaste and face cream; one with three 100ml suncream tubes. Planning to buy shampoo and conditioner, and shower gel in a supermarket there.

Don't have a fleece, do have a hoodie? Maybe I should wear a cami and a hoodie on the plane. Will try to pick up a nice jumper before I go too.

Have been checking the weather and it is late teens early 20s so hopefully warm enough.

How much would one piece of hold luggage cost? It might be worth.

Having to take bedding must be the biggest problem. Is it just sheets you need, or the pillows and blankets too?

Honestly, rather than spending my holiday washing I'd pay for at least one hold case. Switzerland isn't cheap, I bet using the laundry and buying products there will cost a good chunk of your saving made by going hand luggage only.

Fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillow case. Have laid it all out flat and rolled it and it doesn't take up too much, really.

You are right, think I'll buy them in Boots at the airport after security. You can take in a shopping bag of stuff bought in the duty free after you've been through.

Def don't want to take a hold bag - I like doing a wash, wierdo haha. Like using the fancy industrial size machines, like hanging it out in the sunshine, like the hour and a half I get to escape on my own haha.

definitely buy toiletries in Boots, you can bring more.

You could if you're feeling brave get some of your clothes (VAT free) at airport, if from Gatwick forget which terminal they do Fat Face, Zara, Accessorize etc so you could easily buy your tops etc there.

Before now I've bought a play suit and swimming costume and hat and flip flops in Accessorize and shorts PJs in fat face too. They just allow them as extras eg duty free on plane.

Just make sure that you don't go style over substance. Would the trainers be better? Just make sure that you can be warm and dry. I think Switzerland is one of the best countries in the world. Have a great time!

Definitely comfy walking shoes. I made the mistake of going to Austria with flip flops, sandals and flimsy canvas pumps, I really wished I'd taken my Merrells.
