When are skinny jeans going to die?

I really want to create a capsule wardrobe/uniform but surely we're seeing the end of skinny jeans soon? I think if my jeans were slim/boyfriend then I need different shape tops.
It feels like skinny jeans are going, but that's not reflected in what's in the shops.
Anyone got a crystal ball/an idea of how to handle this distressing issue?! Wink

i don't think they will ever die :)

I hope not. They're my preferred cut.

It's a pity that manufacturers don't seem to produce a whole range of the 'standard' cuts all the time as a staple.

I went years without jeans when skinnies were unavailable. And I guess peop,e who prefer other styles feels the same now (though boot cut hasn't vanished as completely as skinnies did, so perhaps there's hope for greater choice as a new norm)

I dont think they will die! They tried to bring back high waisted 70s style flares last year i remember and no one anywhere wore them and everyone is back in skinny jeans! The boyfriend jean is popular and looks good i think but its not going to stop people wearing skinny jeans. They are the new leggings!! Just wear whichever suits you best, if it suits you loads it doesnt matter if its bang on trend or not. x

I wore them weekend! If I'd known it would be a flash in the pan I'd have bought about ten pairs to keep me going. I look awful in low waisted or skinny jeans Sad

I hope they die soon. I'm pear shaped, I'm fed up with the skinny jean crap.

Of course they will die - that's the nature of fashion. But it could easily take a couple more years. It was the exactly same with bootlegs - they lasted far, far longer than people predicted then all of a sudden they looked tired and dated and that was it.

Skinnies also have a massive advantage of being far more suitable for a rainy, British climate and this is helping to prolong their shelf life. But that won't save them forever.

I would just wear what you like and enjoy the fact that for now there's a reasonable amount of choice in the shops. It's unusual and it won't last for long.

I love them, although trying to find skinny jeans that are actually skinny is a nightmare, I five pairs of Hilfiger skinny jeans because the don't have huge calves on them. I was wearing Superdry before but they don't last more than about three months.

I do still have a pair of boot cut Levi's that I love though :D

Just bought a bunch of wide legged linen trousers from m & s. You lot have seriously got to experience the comfort! I'm not sure I look any more like a sack of potatoes than I do in skinny jeans!

I thought the craze for Ugg boots would die out at least a decade ago. I was wrong, on they shuffle.

So who knows OP!

Soon, please - they look awful on most people and are so unimaginative.

Wouldn't it be lovely if shops continuously sold a range of different shapes of jeans instead of dictating that, this year, sorry, but you'll be spending your life trying not to trip over flappy ankles or baring your arsecrack to the world because low rise boot cut is all we will be offering.

Derelict They don't look awful on most people. They look awful on some people. And there is no guarantee that people who look awful in skinnies wouldn't look awful in whatever fresh hell the fashion industry decided to inflict on the world. One thing you can guarantee though is that whatever the next thing might be, it will be smething that looks good on models. Tall thin models. You might find yourself wishing that skinnies were back. They might not look great on everyone but at least they are equally good/bad on tall and short people. You can't say that for every fashion trend. Be careful what you wish for...

They are OK on me, but I'm slightly happier in a slim leg sort of shape. I do like to wear what's fashionable in jeans because then the rest looks current without as much effort.
Dilemmas dilemmas.

They've been in for 15 years now, I remember buying my first pair when miss sixty was fashionable.

I have found that straight leg and boyfriend are taking over where I live but skinny jeans are still going strong.

I disagree. Careful not to mistake opinion for fact, there.

Meh. Soon I hope as I'm what I would call pear shaped. Or maybe butternut squash shaped. And as for the numerous style guru blogs recommending boot cut jeans for pears.......how cruel!!! As if I don't feel bad enough! Grin

Derelict you are the one who is airing your opinion as fact. They don't look awful on most people. They look fine on most people. That's why they don't go away because most people like them.

They are perfect for the Northern European climate as you can wear them with ankle boots and the ends never get wet!
I like proper denim though - none of this jegging stuff which shows all lumps and wobbles.

Skinny jeans are the only style jeans that look good tucked into boots in the winter.

So, skinny jeans are here to stay - For winter at least.

I don't think they're here to stay, any more than they were in the 80s. But as the op says, it's not just a change in jeans, it means different shoes, tops - a whole new silhouette so it's slow to catch on.

Unless jeans fell off the fashion radar completely... If that happened then they'd probably become like fleeces and wellies and no-one would care what style they were. But then jeans and a nice top or blazer would no longer be a failsafe, take-you-anywhere outfit so I think we should be careful what we wish for.

They will be around for a long time look at Shopbop, NAP they are by far the most popular style. This question has been asked many times over the last few years and people were predicting they would be out of fashion only to be proven wrong. They are more of a classic as they've been around so long.

Maybe I'm out of fashion here, but I thought straight leg were also ok at the moment, and a better choice for the fuller of thigh? But being fuller of thigh myself and having to choose between fashion and not having legs looking like a pair of overstuffed sausages I have chosen the latter option!
