Are these sandals a bit cruise ships?

Not sure. Have just received them today and they're comfortable, but are they a bit glitzy in a safe way iykwim (not that I'm usually radical or anything)? They also come in black.

What do you think? I'm mid early 40s if that makes a difference.

Honest answer is the black at a push (agree you're too young really!) but def. not the metallic, they are truly 'cruise ship'!

It's the hessian IMO, if that section of the wedge was leather coated then the black would be very nice, comfy looking, but still nice. The hessian makes them old-fashioned.

Do you mean the espadrille bit I love? I thought the white cleaty bit on the sole might balance out the middle aged-ness and make them more up to date. Here's the link for different views.

If they were higher they wouldn't be as frumpy, or comfortable admittedly. Mid heel height is tricky, if your legs are half decent go for completely flat sandals, they're much more current.

I think they're ok but you could possibly get a similar style with a bit more modernity.

I tried these on in clarks the other day and they were ridiculously comfortable. Unfortunately a bit wide for my foot. Come in a red-pink too

I think the combination of metallic and comfortable always makes shoes a bit cruise. This makes me sad because I love both silver things and comfortable shoes, but the two together has an inevitable Saga tinge. (Honourable exception for my silver leather Converses IMO).

Thanks for comments and links. I do like the flat crossover sandal but they're too expensive unfortunately. The platform ones would make me look like an ageing Baby Spice I think, and the black ones are a bit 1970s primary school teacher, do you think? I don't know, maybe that look is all the rage right now.


What about these black ones? Not massively different to the Clarks ones but not as clumpy.

Sorry Toggle didn't mean to be rude about your link. I'm sure as a young woman of 30 they looked really good on you, whereas I just had flashbacks of the middle aged teachers at school in the late 70s/early 80s wearing sandals like that with polyester skirts and sensible blouses.

I've tried those ones on too, Hoggle, and agree that they're v comfortable - they looked undeniably frumpy on me though (I'm 34).

I actually like the original ones, OP, and whilst I do know what you mean by "a bit cruise ship", I think you could get away with them as long as you weren't wearing anything too...Per Una. If they were tan leather I'd buy them myself!

I like them Margot. I can't see they are frumpy. Similar sandals are everywhere this year. I think lower heeled ones with metallics etc can be cruise-ey or Per Una-ey. The ones in your op aren't.
