For a woman in her forties to wear original style kickers?
I have acquired a pair, love them but they feel a bit children's bbc presenter... I have attached a pic and considered changing the laces from red to navy...
If I were to were them then what with?
I enjoy wearing comfy but flattering clothes, quite casual slightly adolescent hippy/classic mix, lots of gap , Zara, charity and tkmax.
Jeans, little dresses, short skirts, mainly flats, dm loafers , converse and the occasional block heel Mary Janes or ankle boot.
Please advise, I'm a peri menopausal mid lifer, I don't want to make a hideous mistake.
Tia...

Do you like them? The only person whose opinion matters is your own. If you feel good, then wear them, or at least give them a trial run. If you feel like a plonker then charity them. Fwiw I like them. Grin

Rickoshay thanks for your reply. I think they're pretty cute and funky, I've always been a fan of clompy shoes/boots.
I think I'll change the laces and give them a try!
I'm sure in le grande scheme that it will not matter one jot, I have got rid of things before that others found revolting and have lived to regret it!

I think one of the positives of getting older (I'm the same age as you) is to give fewer shits about what other people think.
If you like them, then wear them with a big smile.
Try them on with a few outfits and work out what you like. Enjoy!

They're not my thing but I do think they could look cool with the sort of style you describe. I agree on toning the laces waaaay down though.

I think they are ugly and need prettying up with some ribbon laces. Everything else will need to be minimal and classic, but I'd give that a whirl.

Put black laces in them, wear with plain jeans and a black top and silver necklace, keep hair style simple. The shoes do the talking if you know what I mean. Infact I think you should post a pic of the complete outfit Smile

I really like them and definitely don't think they are just for young'uns or anything. I like toast's suggestion for what to wear with them.

I really like them and I'm in my forties. I agree with PP, that one of the benefits of being this age is that I give much less of a shit what others think than I did when I was younger so have the freedom to wear what I like. I actually quite like the red laces- especially if worn with a predominantly black outfit. [Should add a disclaimer than last year I bought myself a pair of bright pink boots that the younger me would never have dared to wear and couldn't decide whether to be mortified or proud when DD told me one of the girls at school described me as 'the one with the cool boots'- I've gone with proud but could mean I am infact Mrs Mutton]

Ooooh where did you get them? I want some!

Hey guys thanks so much for all your messages and ideas.
Original style knickers could be next, I'm already on big pants...
I've bought some navy laces to try , navy is my black, I rarely wear black as it doesn't agree with me, the same with silver but I like Toast's outfit idea, if I swap black for navy and silver for brass think low key is a pod way to go and during the summer might try with my usual cut offs or little dress.
Stinking cold at the mo but soon as it's organised I'll (try to) post some pics!
Exciting!

Pidlan, someone didn't want them anymore and it was too tempting to pass up, they're such a classic!

Thank you toast
Well I it my first chance to wear them today as it was rainy, not much inspiration as feeling poorly but am quite happy with how it turned out, no weird looks at school or at work and a compliment from a very chic friend Smile

Hope you don't mind me posting this on your thread but wondering if you or anyone could suggest what to wear with these vans I got at the weekend. I've never ever had anything flowery but felt like I wanted something different!

They look a lot better on, as the print isn't as bold once they are down on your feet. My descriptive skills are awful Grin

Toast I like those! Personally I would wear with rolled jeans and a plain white top. Could look good with denim shorts too.
