help for frazzled overdyed straw like hair

well, i appear to have knacked my hair......

its been coping platinum blonde for a few years, and I've loved it having more character than my natural dark brown, however in some bizarre fit of impulsivity after becoming obsessed over jamie alexander I dyed my hair dark brown at home adamant I would morph into her if only our hair was the same colour Grin

needless to say i still look like me just with muddy brown, crunchy, breaking, unstylable hair Sad

determinedly sitting on my hands not to hack at it or whack the peroxide on

i'd love to not care and just shave it off, however, its my wedding party in 2 weeks and im desperate to somehow have it look nice

i've spoken briefly to my hairdresser who advised just trying to leave it alone and that she would trim it and put a glossy semi colour on for me as close to the party as poss,

my questions are....in the meantime does anyone have any miracle treatments they can suggest, i'll happily blow £30 on some conditioner but would like to know its the right stuff, i'm not blow drying it or even shampooing it as its so dry, so its just slicked back with conditioner every day but only a cheapy at the min....any recommendations for magical products???

annnd its already pixie short so.. any recommendation for super short cuts that look feminine, im thinking short sides and trying to salvage a bit of fringe, my hairs naturally poker straight and i'm not the greatest at styling it, so anything that works with those issues.... i'm thinking anne hathaway, but would LOVE any suggestions

if it all goes tits up im sure i'll just get plastered and dig out out the fuscia pink fancy dress wig at the back of my wardrobe (and then sob over the photos for years to come)

ah its only hair though after all (and repeat ad infinitum)

Aphogee 2 minute reconstructer.
Can be used on European hair as well, it's a protein mask and will build up the strength of your hair. It's fabulous.
Use weekly.
Read reviews for it on amazon.

Use a hair conditioner afterwards for moisture.
Argan oil or coconut oil while damp to nourish your hair - and lay off the heated styling products.

Take biotin, msm and silica supplements (all available from amazon ) read the reviews. My hair is the strongest it's ever been, and these are my nails after 35 years of being an addicted nail biter.
I'm utterly thrilled Grin

Start this regime asap OP.
Your hairdresser will be amazed at your hair Smile

oo thanks guys, coconut oil is currently being slathered on, and i'll get onto to amazon now to inspect the aphogee stuff :) i'd bloody love amazement rather than disappointment from the hairdresser, there's nothing worse than attempting to do stuff yourself then crawling back to them for a repair job!!

well perhaps there are worse things but as you may guess i'm becoming a bit obsessive about my worsel gummidge hair!!

I would suggest the Joico K-Pak range, specifically the cuticle sealer (if you can get hold of it, it's designed for use immediately after chemical treatments to restore pH but you can use occasionally between times) and revitaluxe reconstructant which contains protein and moisture and you can use as a conditioner on damp hair.

I have naturally dark brown hair but last year I lightened it over a period of months ( shade 10.00 or similar) plus highlights.
My hair was cut every 6 weeks , dyed every 3 weeks .

I completely maimed it, I looked like Donald Trump Shock, all cotton woolley and fuzzy.

At Easter, I was going to dye it brown again. But I had it severely cropped and used Henna (Lush)
I love it , my hair is so soft, the condition is a million times better.

Lush R&B did help (when my hair was mangled) but it left my hair slighted 'coated' which I was ok with - gave it some control at least.

Slather it in conditioner and leave it on as long as possible. Wash it as little as possible too. Don't blow dry it, don't use straightners on it and avoid porducts like hair spray like the plague.

I'd also use a mild shampoo like baby shampoo when you wash it.

An oil treament is definitely worth it - you can buy them in chemists - and a good instensive conditioner.

Also, I would massage your scalp a couple of a times a day to help spread the natural oils - it sounds a bit gross, but we're all about repair here.

You only want hair for two weeks Grin

I noticed my nails growing in less than a week, so the biotin especially works superfast.

Get the coconut oil on overnight a couple of times a week for immediate effect , while you wait for the Aphogee to arrive (hope you have prime Smile) .....
And no straighteners or blow drying in the meantime!

Palmer's Protein Mask is great, you usually find it in the ethnic haircare section. Leave in for hours and put a shower cap or plastic bag on top to keep the heat in, it makes such a difference to my frazzled, bleached hair!

haha beautiful yeah it can all fall out in a couple of weeks, i'm just in sheer terror of having a party and everyone staring at me with ridiculous standy up hair (realise i'm being dramatic and people probably couldnt give a shit as long as they've got food in their bellies and a drink in their hand)

yes i have prime and ordered everything suggested, will not be shampooing just wetting daily as on a morning i look like jedward

i hadn't realised hairspray did damage, its practically the only thing that keeps the broken bits stuck down, a bucket of conditioner will now be my tamer of choice

I like Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.
Smother on damp hair, put a shower cap and towel turban on top and leave for an hour, then shampoo out and condition.
A serum or oil would be good rubbed through towel dried hair before drying.
Elvive Extraordinary Oil gives a lovely shine.

oo elasticizer sounds exactly what my hair wants, its the total opposite of elastic at the minute, COMPLETELY brittle! urgh

Yes, primarily available through salons but many won't sell the cuticle sealer as it's meant to be a salon product so online better.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 03/06/2016 17:08

Elasticizer has rescued my bleached hair. It actually looks like normal hair now Grin You just have to wander around the house with a towel on your head for an hour looking like Nora Batty waiting for it to work.

Definitely get a semi permanent dye before your party. That makes a world of difference. Although temporary, it'll make your hair amazingly soft and shiny and you'll be the belle of the ball.

Wow OP!!
You're a fast mover. Amazon takes a pounding on payday, I fill up my basket throughout the month with all the mumsnet suggestions Smile

Please keep us informed as to what helped you.

Definitely keep away from the hairspray. You want moisture.....
Leave in conditioner, Argan oil, coconut oil to tame and style. It'll be worth it!!

It's £2.50 from Superdrug and really worked brilliantly on my hair which I made the mistake of bleaching post pregnancy when it was already in a bit of a state.

I often use conditioner only on my hair (I have to wet my hair every day in the shower ).
Aveda shampoo (I have Clove) is gorgeous, mild, smells amazing
