Stone jeans - what colour tops for a HOC Sultry Winter?

I'm a sultry winter who is so bored with navy, black and grey bottoms that I bought a pair of stone stretchy jeans for the summer. Now I'm stuck with what tops. Navy looks good and so does white, is that it? I thought they'd give me more variety but they don't seem to go with much else. I even bought tan sandals to go with them as navy looks too harsh. Don't tell my HOC consultant 😉

I mean stone coloured like stone chinos, not stone-washed like faded jeans.

I would have thought that most of your colours would go, dark green, dark blue, reds etc

Hmmm. Are they skinny jeans? Legs in stone coloured skinny jeans have a tendency to look naked from a distance. I think you should consider exchanging them for white. Stone won't work with much in a winters wardrobe. You've already had to buy shoes to go with them. The shoes won't go with anything else either.

Yes. They're quite skinny. They feel super comfy but look weird with my dark tops. I have white jeans already, just fancied a change. Ho hum. Won't do it again 🙁

Weirdly, stone IS in my sultry winter palette. I hate colour analysis, makes me feel crap and incompetent.

Yes is in the winter palette which is why I thought it would go with most of the colours. It's not far from grey really so I'm not sure why it won't work with your palette, is it because it's jeans? Would a stone top match better than stone jeans do you think!

Meant to add, I'm a winter a have a few stone things but mainly tops, they go great with black or navy trousers or jeans and also plum or burgundy cardigans

Looks best with my navy V neck cashmere jumper. Not sure that is what I wanted as a Summer look though!

I won't need another pair of stone bottoms. Ever.

Yes Fuzzy, I think a top would be much more versatile. I tried it with a burgundy tee and it just felt too blocky. The reverse would be better on me I think. Thanks.

Stone is a weird one in the winter palette. It sort of goes with everything, but doesn't look amazing with anything, because it's much less clear and vibrant than other winter colours. I'd give it a try with some of the lighter and less clear colours - silver grey/ice pink/acid yellow. And if you want to try lighter bottoms again, you could go for any of your shades of grey? Don't feel you have to stick exclusively with the sultry winter colours - the whole winter palette is at your disposal!

Navy is a good summer colour. You could try emerald green, cobalt blue or red. I know black is boring but it should go well with stone.

Don't forget that if you go for a neutral top, you can brighten up the outfit with an accessory in a bright colour e.g shows, bag, scarf etc..

I get complimented on wearing the bright end of the winter palette but I'm meant to look best in the dark end.

Blimmin' annoying all this colour analysis malarkey. I get bogged down in rules.

Maybe the stone jeans I bought are a tad warm? They certainly wouldn't go with light grey and mole is a nono as far as my consultant is concerned.

Mind you she said no way to stone as well so it serves me right!

As an aside, I've never once been complimented on my colour choices since I went down this route, the only time I've ever had a 'that's nice' is when I wore a cobalt cardigan.

You are not limited to your very best colours - you can use the other colours in the winter palette unless these are a real no no (e.g mole). You also should wear colours that you like wearing and feel good in e.g cobalt. The brighter colours of the winter spectrum are not my best colours but when combined with certain colours, can look amazing on me.

Absolutely, the ratings (and therefore type of season) are a guide, not a limit. The rest of the palette is there to be worn! I wear a lot of colours (yellow, cream, sage green, light khaki - am an Autumn) that I don't rate well in at all, but I am drawn to IRL. They still look better than 3/4 of the colours out there! (Am a HoC consultant, so if I do it, anyone can ).

Thanks hopefully I think my family get sick of seeing me in navy so anything brighter gets a round of applause!

I found myself with a whole load of navy bottoms and navy tops and they look awful together. I like a splash of fuchsia or cobalt myself.

I'm glad I had the consultation as it opened up colours I didn't know I could wear but I default to navy and grey far too often.

Winter is a fabulous season to be from October to February but I struggle in Spring and Summer.

I haven't found any ice colours at all, they're very difficult to find. I would buy the kettlewell ones but I don't like the jersey tops.

Have you tried them with a stripy top? Maybe a stone coloured top with a stripe in a colour from your palette would work?
